Fiction So... Mars is the capital?

A question for you, gentleman.
In my understanding, in FE2 is implied that the politic centre of the Federation is still Earth, and Mars is the headquarter of the main Corporations (except Sirius Corp. and the imperial ones, obviously).
Now, the ED wiki states that "Contrary to popular belief, Earth is not the Federation's headquarters - it is Mars."

I was wrong all the time or the seat of the President and the Senate was moved?

Thank You
Andrew

I also believe this to be the case. Certainly the Federal Government is on Mars. However, I haven't found a publically accessible confirmation of this at present. I'll keep looking.

Cheers,

Drew.

Certainly the Federal Government is on Mars.

The Frontier Elite II Gazetteer states that:

(Earth)
"[...] An intensive environmental rescue program saved the planet and it again became the beautiful place it once was. It became both a very up-market tourist destination and the Federation capital with only the extremely rich being able to live there. [...]"

(Mars)
"In 2290 Mars became the first planet to be terraformed successfully but not before several aborted attempts. Major corporations based their administration centres here when land was very cheap in the early days and Mars seemed like the Garden of Eden compared to the ravaged Earth. [...]"

No reason to think that in FFE the situation was changed. So, because Corporations are very influent and powerful, seems that the official government was on Earth and the real one was on Mars...

OT:
you're Drew Wagar, author of the Oolite saga? I'm honored. I've just finished to read "Status Quo". Brilliant work.
And an informative reading: I'm writing a novella loosely based on the FE2/FFE universe and, for long time, I've christened the spaceship of my main character "Eclipse"... until I discovered that a ship with this name is already in "Status Quo"! Now i'm desperately in search of a new name!! ;-)

<Bows>

Status Quo is 10 years old this year... and I wrote another Elite book too. ;) Sorry about using the 'Eclipse' name, it's a good name for a starship! Good luck with your novella. Let me know when it's out. :)

btw - I will be writing a short follow up to the Oolite Saga over the summer to mark 10 years of the Oolite Saga and give something back to the fans who helped me start writing in the Elite-i-verse.

Cheers,

Drew.

:) I know that Status Quo has some years, but despite my long "career" as player in FE2 and sequels, I'm totally new to the Elite fandom and to the fan creations. Surely I'll let you know when my script will be finished but i've a long way to go... by now it has reached the proportions of a long novel, 360 pages and counting; some parts has over ten years, and a long work of refinement and rewriting is needed.
Another problem is that... I'm Italian and I'm writing in that language!!!

Looking forward for your new novel!

I've always thought of it as Earth being the Royal Palace, and Mars the Parliamentary Building. Earth is the Queen, Mars the Prime Minister.

No queen or king in Federation... a President instead. Anyway, your interpretation makes sense. The President's residence (call it White House) maybe is on Earth, and all the governative buildings are on Mars. Maybe, after all, the role of Capital is shared between the two worlds, altough Mars capital is an idea somewhat more original than Earth... and helps to differentiate Elite Federation from Star Trek Federation (that has Earth as capital).

From Galnet Congress is on Mars

26 December 3300

University Student Sit-In

A peaceful Christmas demonstration which started on Christmas Day continues on the steps of the Congress building in Olympus Village on Mars.

This year Christmas falls during the cold season, and the students are wrapped up warm, mostly dressed in red and white Santa outfits. Above them a giant repeating holo of the burning warg running from the field of flames plays. The protestors chant "Babykiller" in between renditions of various carols with amended words to reflect the protest.

Newsfeeds are now carrying this story throughout the Federation, but members of the government have been unavailable for comment.

As is the Federal Navy Admiralty

19 December 3300

Admiral Vincent Declares a Blockade of Kappa Fornacis

Federal Admiral Vincent has declared a blockade of the Kappa Fornacis system to prevent the spread of the narcotic onionhead.

Speaking after a meeting at the Admiralty in Quenisset on Mars he answered questions from waiting journalists.

"The local government is failing to prevent the spread of this vile narcotic through the galaxy, so we must do so on behalf of the Federation. Any ship carrying this narcotic will be destroyed by our forces."

The Farmer's leader, Georgio Algeria has put out a plea for help.

"Please help us. This is our livelihood. If the Federation doesn't like it then it must be cool. And you'll be cool if you help us. Come and back us against the oppressors."

Mars is certainly the Seat of Government it seems, but Earth may well still be the symbolic Capital of the Federation

In Elite: Dangerous the capital is definitely (or as definitely as I can claim not being part of the Frontier staff) on Mars. I just find it surprising that my memory told me that that was the case already FFE... :/

Mars is indeed the capital of the Federation.

Michael

Out of interest, where was that stated, Michael? Is it previous lore, or recent Galnet, if so, where? I recall reading it, but I can't find it for the life of me! :)

Cheers,

Drew.
