So, mining in 1.3... Clarification please! :)

It's pretty obvious that mining is now getting a slight boost in 1.3.
But I have a simple question about Resource Extraction Points.
In 1.3 we will be getting Low and High intensity RES, which will bring us low and high value minerals.
But what if I choose to mine in neither of them? Thing is, I always mine far from any RES because I can go about my buisness without any confrontation from pirates.

What is the rewards from asteroids that aren't in a low/high intensity RES?
Will I be getting low value or high value minerals, or something in between if I choose not to mine in a RES?

Thank you! Apart from bounty hunting, I think mining is quite cool. And I'll probably gonna buy me the Adder and collect some pristine stuff in 1.3. :)

RES will be getting a resource boost, so you'll mine more in them (meaning you'll mine less if you go elsewhere :D).

I don't remember if anything was said about the boost in low and high intensity. Would make sense that you make more money in high intensity RES since the pirate threat will be greater (yay for bounty hunting !).

Michael answered this in the update thread.

Mining outside of res will yield the same results as now.

Mining low intensity will yield better results than now.

Mining high intensity will yield the best results.

Pretty interesting question really - since RES locations have transformed into pure Bounty-Hunter grounds since quite a long time now.

Technically... I wouldn't even remotely consider mining in one, since I can't have Pirates permanently or repeatedly intercept a barely defended mining rig.

And since Pirate spawn upto 1000LY away from civilization (SuperCruise spawns far out of civilization were fixed since they didn't make any sense - but not the Asteroid Field spawn triggers), right now I'd actually have no idea where to mine without getting these permanent Pirate spawns.
I'd have to move >1000LY out of civilization to "mine in peace" - which is not feasible.
The alternative - build a rig optimized for combat mining, resulting on tons of bounties and a severely degraded mining output.

Anyway, I'll check out those RES sites with a mining rig after V1.3... We'll see how it works out.

Regards to the latter point, if you can find a quiet place to mine now, you'll be able to do it in 1.3. If you can't, you won't. Nothing is changing except res points.

I'm not sure what you mean though. I was certain you could easily avoid npcs if you mine in any location far enough away from a RES.

I did this and spent a couple hours without anything dropping by. Why would it? They wouldn't know you're there unless they scan your wake, which doesn't last long.

Mining in res is being encouraged with 1.3 (better yield) but obviously we'll need protection.

Gotcha! :) Didn't read through the thread, only the main post. Thanks!

I think these new sites may really be intended for wings of at least two players. One to mine, and a bodyguard to keep the pirates away (can do some mining also when no bad boys are around). But I guess its wait and see until we really know :)

Or a battle miner. Quite a few ships would qualify for this. It's not been practical up until now due to the time taken to scoop up. You can't do that and fight.

If drones work efficiently then combat miner ships will become a valid load out.

Exactly this! As stated in another thread, I intend to do some large-scale mining in an anaconda :D

To maximise profits, do you guys think an A4 shield and max amount A shield boosters together with some beam turrets etc. will be enough to fight off pirates? (Money is no problem, just want to max out the cargo hold).
After all there are still cops around in the RES, so a defensive survival loadout might be enough. ..

A mining scanner would make more sense. Let us find the best rocks with scanning.
Agreed, the prospector drone sounds like a waste of a game mechanic and cargo space..

An A4 with boosters has more strength than a combat pythons shields. Plenty for npc's.

this is the elephant in the room that most people ignore..
no amount of drones is going to stop the need to literally go up to every asteroid to see whats in it..
but maybe the technical problem of defining whats in the generated roids within scanner range then highlighting the good ones is too difficult to implement.
I look forward to 1.3 as I do a fair bit of mining for platinum, but im prepared to be disappointed. sorry to be a downer.

Thats interesting.
You can shoot the asteroids while waiting for a decent wanted ship to spawn.

Battle miner is what I'm hoping will work, mix bounty hunting with down time spent mining for decent metals/minerals. Ideally they fix the Class 2 turret bug (not firing) then my Clipper should make a half decent battle miner. Already capable of the bounty hunting bit versus NPCs plus has a load of cargo space for the mining bit.

My anaconda will become a mining ship. I'll probably slap class three beam turrets in the one huge and three large spots so I can keep mining while my turrets swat the flies.
