So my skybox got updated...

So after my latest jump my skybox updated and, err, where there used to be nothing, suddenly there's a ton of bright spots.

Not sure what magical boundary I crossed but suddenly this region of space started to seem much, much more interesting...

I'm more thinking along the lines of 'game only renders stars X light years away from your current position into skybox' or 'game only renders next couple of neighboring regions from your current position into skybox' kinda thing :)

Glare from being close to the star washing out the dimmer lights?

Combined with wash from other nearby objects.

If you're jumping 20+ly at a time and have been close to the stars while departing for the last 4 or 5 jumps, this is perfectly reasonable behavior. Also isn't that area in a nebula?

Not sure. Could be I'm nearing some, though. The big nebula seen in the background of the screenshot is Lagoon Nebula, I think. The stars responsible for the big pack of dots are probably NGC 6530 -related procedurals + couple of catalogue stars around.

I had the same thing happen when I went to the Lagoon nebula, https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=102871 - at around 32 seconds in

Nice timelapse, yeah same region, different approach angle :)
