Once again the beer googles have proven why you should not drink and fly. Have an unhealthly insurance total in stats to remind of of this.

Usually though its been by flying my T9 or Conda into the side of the station with a hold full of cargo. Self inflicted and completely deserved.

Last night however I was out exploring, thousands of LY's from any solid objects I could have hit. What would have killed me? Only thing I can think of is running out of fuel, but I had a full tank when I passed out sometime between 01:00 and 02:00. When I woke at 05:00 the ship was toast would expect it to have lasted longer than that. The rebuy screen just said I died no other description.

I was also in solo so was not ganked.

Anyone able to shed any light on it? Just curious really expected to be relatively safe out there, safe from myself that is:p

LOL,

You cannot totally stop in SC so I suspect you passed out facing a star and slowly roasted to death by crawling into the star!

Yeah that is possible, I did feel a bit warm when I came to...

I had a cunning self defensive mechanism I normally use, if I am going out drinking I switch to a sidey before I log off...just not possible out in the stars.

Park for the night -

Head out in any direction away from all local objects

Check Nav panel and unlock target if one was selected

Check radar panel and make sure everything is behind you

Travel 100Ls away from nearest object

Throttle down to zero until SC speed is 30m/s

Drop out of SC

Select Modules panel and shut down until you only are using 12-15 %

Exit game

It should now be safe to drink yourself into oblivion...

My most recent death was when i accidentally knocked the silent running button / voice activated it - not sure which - when I quickly ran out to help the wife unload the car.

i got back with ship at 12% hull and by the time i noticed why it was too late.

Passed out: that's the give-away. Your head hit the keyboard, put the stick throttle at full, and you generally slobbered all over the controls causing electrical short-circuiting.:D
And to top it all, where does all that beer you drank pass through?:rolleyes:

Wise words and all things in a sober condition I am well aware of and consider.

But you forget kind sir/madam that drunk people are utter morons and have no chance of following such a complicated procedure:p

A real explorer has the drain tube and catch bag rigged to minimize AFK

I had a similar problem on Friday night.

One too many beers, plus a whisky or 2 - I was Supercruising to somewhere - ETA 10 mins,
I woke up about an hour later with the insurance screen in from of me - appears I had been killed by an NPC in my case.
Thankfully only flying a Cobra MK3 (although with a lot of Grade A modules).

I won't make the same mistake again - well not until next Friday anyway :)

And then post beer the following occurs....

You stagger through the front door convinced you are invincible
Fall into the chair and turn the PC back on
Stare at your X52 in bewilderment wondering why it is wearing a Donner Kebab hat..
You log in and start looking for an army to take on...not very easy 1000's of LY's from the bubble..
Wake up face down on the keyboard wondering what bug caused you to die (you where after all master of universe and therefore indestructable)

It sounds like you have bigger problems than your ship blowing up in Elite. Perhaps you should step back and assess your drinking. 18 years sober, myself.

there is a simpler list:
When falling asleep, press Esc key then select 'Save and Exit' and answer Yes to 'are you sure' message
But that would be boring :)
