So Python or Anaconda?

So after completing some community goals and gaining a windfall of credits I’m nearing 100 million. I tend to buy specific ships for specific roles. But I want one large multirole ship that can mine, trade, mission grind and fend off pirates when the need arises and basically do anything and everything.

SO

Do I save a little more for a python and kit it out initially for trade? (trade simply because it the cheapest build to earn some more credits with)

Or do i keep saving and splash out on an Anaconda also fitted for trade before I can fit it out more as a multi-role.

What would you pick?

My current ship list:
IEagle - Racer
Eagle - Bounty hunter
Viper M4 - Bounty Hunter (Sorry for all the Viper screenshots if I'm in your feed :p)
Cobra M3 - Mining for Engineers
Type6 - Exploration
DIamondback Explorer - Rare Trades and smuggler
Type7 - Trading

To buy -
Python - Multi Role
Keelback - Miner

1. Buy a Python for trading, or anything actually.
2. Save up enough money so you can buy an Anaconda + at least the A class FSD.
3. Sell that hunka junk
4. Buy Anaconda
5. Never buy another ship again

That's not enough monies to buy either tbh. Stock python is pretty terribad. On no account do you need to fully a-rate it for it to be a great ship, but you're talking minimum 80-100mil for a usable one, which doesn't leave much for rebuys etc. I'd keep saving.

They are right.

First i bought a Python, then a Conda and i kept my Python.

Because i'm a trader i finally sold my Conda for a Cutter (calculator rules).

Take your time, secure your finances first.

Sorry misread what you were saying. As long as you're still saving there's no problem.

If you want a ship that can be a trader AND a miner AND a mission runner at the same time, then it's got to be python really, as the large pad requirement precludes the annie from a great deal of missions.

..But if you want a ship that's actually GOOD as a miner & trader at the same time, and are less fussed about mission flexibility - you should go annie instead. The python is a fab miner but with a mining fit it's pretty specialised to the detriment of trading potential, whereas annie can accommodate both more comfortably.

My Python cost me around ~80M, fitted for trading (192T cargo) with some light, expected combat (missions, CGs, etc). Some modules i right away A-rated, some i bought D-rated but those D-rated modules were right away modded to give stock A-rated module performance. Saved me alot of credits. The only issue i had to deal with was the slightly high heat levels but its nothing that's really critical (A-rated modules are more heat efficient).

For me, the Python is the best all around multipurpose ship - combat, mission running, exploration, trading - it can even land on outposts which the Anaconda cant do.

The Anaconda is another story, spent about 300M credits and not even half of the modules i have there are A-rated!

Remember, buy your ships and modules in Li Yong Rui systems for discounts and mod modules that arent A-rated to save some credits. Make sure you have credits for multiple rebuys and as much as possible dont sell off your other ships in case the worst happens. And if you have to sell your ships just to get the next big one, that means you cant afford it anyway.

Python FTW!

It is THE multi-role ship. Currently got mine outfitted for bounty hunting (shields, beams, multi-cannons, chaff, KWS, frameshift wake scanner + interdictor), fuel ratting (fuel transfer limpets), trading/smuggling (198 cargo) and long distance travel (fuel scoop, ADS and SRV + a grade 5 FSD upgrade for 33LY jump range). I can fly from the bubble to CEOS in 17 jumps, fuel rescue someone along the way, land on a planet and drive around for a bit, run Fed data delivery missions between CEOS & SOTHIS (landing at the medium sized outpost pad if required), deal with any NPC that interdicts me, run down a few wanted ships for their bounties and then pick up 190+ tons of cargo for a return trip back to the bubble that nets me over 20million credits.

What's not to like! :D

As an all rounder I have to agree the Python is more suited.

You can aways save up for the Anaconda once you have the Python.

Ok seems pretty clear that my best bet is to go for the Python, thanks for the replies guys as I was really undecided what was my best option before. I'll save up some more and take her for a test drive! Not planning to sell any of my ships, getting too attached to them.

Python FTW!

I'm sold! :D

I have them both fully fitted for whatever I need. The Python is the biggest ship I ever flew that really feels like a spaceship. The Anaconda feels more like a brick. Like a aircraft carrier. Just heavy. I prefer my well suited Python. It is so much more agile and able to land on medium pads. A real advantage when running missions. [hehe]

Awesome, and it looks just Dangerous! That sharp nose and streamline shape.

Get a Python, sell all the other crap. You really don't need anything if you own a Python. Then save up money for a Conda.

I flew a Python for many, many month, foremost bounty hunting. It's a fantastic ship and fullfills all your needs. It's a strong fighter and you can haul cargo. I fitted my A-rated Python as a combat vessel. I now own a Corvette and a Conda, but still keep the Python. It's a great ship. But you must make sure to A-rate it. And try out some small ships before fighting other ships. I lost my Python 2 times at the beginning as I was not used to it and it was not A-rated.

Buy both, Python first. There are excellent ships.
.
^ This. The Python made me enough money to add an Annie to my fleet. The Annie made me enough money to add a Cutter. The Cutter makes enough money for anything.

I did part-ex my Annie for the Cutter, but made enough money trading in it to buy back the Annie in a matter of days. I don't normally sell ships in the process of buying a new one (I prefer to save the money to buy wholesale), but ran the maths and I was saving myself a great deal of extra trade grind by selling the Annie first.

So Python or Anaconda?

If you do not mind losing the option to dock at every station in the game, then there can be no doubt: The Anaconda.
It is a very versatile beast. It is the Python among the big ships.
It is a good trader, has an excellent jump range and when outfitted for combat it is a destructive monster. It is much better at killing big targets than a Python.

I use my Anaconda frequently, but when I do, I do miss the option to dock at outposts.
If you like to do missions you will have to let a lot of mission go because your ship is too big.
And you also limit your options when you do ranking. I prefer to use my Python for that.

All other things being equal, if you want to drag fairly large cargoes fairly long distances to large landing pads, get the Annie [up]. For more landing-pad flexibility, but carrying smaller cargoes and making shorter jumps get the Python [up].

But all isn't equal since you have limited funds. I have both ships, love them both and use them interchangeably, basically depending on whether I need to land at an outpost or not. IMO the Python is a more flexible, although much smaller ship then the Anaconda. It does more jobs well, but can't haul as much, or as far as the Annie however, purchasing and flying a Python well will put you into a good financial position to properly purchase an Anaconda. By properly I mean with the 200 million or so you will need to properly outfit her as a "beginner-Conda" (and don't forget the insurance re-buy!). A-rated and fully kitted out an Anaconda can top 400 million and the Annie is restricted to landing at places with "Large" landing-pads (i.e.: no outposts!), restricting its earning potential somewhat although that may be offset by the 360+ tons of cargo she can carry. The Annie has long legs though and long-haul delivery runs in an Annie are 1/3 fewer jumps than in a Python. Sothis to Bubble in a Python: 39 jumps , in an Anaconda: 27 jumps [money].

My progression was: (ships up to, then) Asp-X, Python, Anaconda, Corvette. Sold the Python to outfit the Annie, easily made enough in a day to buy back my Python then ground Federation rank for a month in order to get a Corvette, a side effect of which was earning over a billion credits so now my entire little squadron of 7 ships, including the Corvette are all A-rated. Grinding rank is somewhat easier in a Python due to it's ability to land at outposts but you can cram more tiny cargoes into the Annie so it earns more credits, faster. What to do, what to do . . . (get a Python).

I love my Anaconda, I had a python for a while, but didn't find her easy to fly, and dropped her once I made Baron with the Empire and got my Clipper.

I LOVE my anaconda, and PVE wise, I have been unstoppable since I got her. I bought her in LYR space at the discount, and I have spent about 200Mil on her.

Sure she handles like a dead Mammoth, but I think of her as more of a frigate, where as most of the other ships are more like small vessels in my mind. She has a very Galactica type feel to her, and especially with my large and huge MC's mounted on the underside at the front, which reminds me of the main Batteries on the Pegasus from BSG. Once I have used my Pulse's to strip someones shields, and moved off to a distance, the minute I train the front batteries on them, it is almost always over for them!

Sure she can't land on an outpost, but I'm not noticing that loss at the moment. and just flying her is surprisingly fun, and nowhere near as disconnected as I thought it might be.

Also its just fun to park her on a planet and drive around looking at all the detail on her! (A nicer paint job helps with this!)
