So, recently.. i lowered sound effects to 15% and voice/music to 100%

It makes for a very different experience, you hear so many more transmissions from the carrier, station and ships. The ships and the srv are very quiet... faint engine and combat sounds.

not saying its better... just different. prolly go back and forth on this setting

Another thing you can try is to mess about with the surround sound and eq presets in the audio menu. They have unexpected effects (compared to the label) of the same audio sources mentioned.

Then you can turn the other sounds back up :)

My current favourite is to leave the the in game settings to off (or full) and use the dolby atmos windows store app. Just with my audio setup, its one of the few configurations where I can get the hyperspace / supercruise jump noise to have a bit of bass. They're scratchy and harsh usually.

Personal choice.......I don't like music playing in any games, it's usually the first option I go for to switch it off.

Not checked the sound effects & voice settings for years..........just know there's no music playing:)

Anyway, I turn off the in-game music and listen to the Elite: Dangerous soundtrack separately sometimes while playing the game.

the Music really adds a depth when messing about on a planet in the SRV, especially in the middle of nowhere, im surprised people turn it off
It just puts me off.....a distraction.

I don't go through RL with music playing in the background, everywhere i go, so I don't do it in games.

If I want music playing I'll start up my mp3 player;)

Night mode for me. The added atmospheric detail just... I don't know how to describe it.

As to the music. It, like the rest of the sound engineering in this game, is awesome, and the only reason I eventually switched it off was that I'd "heard it all" and wanted to emphasize the other parts of the excellent package that I hadn't really noticed before.

Only thing I can say is, for new players, play around with it. Don't get married to one particular setting. This game has the best sound I've ever heard in ANY game, and I've played a LOT of them, quite a few of which were pretty bloody excellent too.

One of the first things I ever did was to turn the music off.
i wish we could turn down the engine noise separately also.

Flimley

..

Yes, exactly what you said. The quite sounds just pop out, and there are many. They are totally muffled in the other settings.
I also turn off all annoying voices like FSD and FA off. Only music I left was Supercruise and exploration.

Nighttime also has the benefit of being, well nighttime. That's usually when I play Lol.
Don't let the name fool you, try it out.

I'm torn towards the music. I love the music when I'm wandering in some abandoned settlement, it adds loads to the overall eeriness and feeling of dread and being alone in a mysterious place. But on the other hand I dislike the music while flying... So I keep it at 40/50%. :)

Also have the ship voices all off (always hated the talking ship trope in scifi). Everything else on 100% (or near). I love the background radio chatter and station and atc comms for instance, makes the game feel much more alive.

Same here but not in Elite. Always left music on, just turned down a bit. Turned off combat music though. Never, ever have combat music on in any game, just winds me up. I also turned off exploration music because it really messes with the SRV scanner audio.

oh..... dont you?

I thought everyone broke out into song during lunch, at the supermarket, or while at the doctors...

besides i dont fly a spaceship in RL so i just sit at home with the Elite Dangerous disc in my hand wondering what it would be like to do it in a game, but because i dont fly spaceships in RL i just cant bring myself to load it up. ;)

What other game let's you choose what sound or music tracks to hear? That is one thing that is so great about this game is just how customizable it is.

I wish I could turn off the voices, but all I hear are the voices. Calling out to me in Witchspace, those damn voices. Always something about their orphaned children or constant questioning...

”Why Rock? Why?”

*Fiddles with Comms settings and closes eyes tightly whilst swallowing hard. It’s just the hull creaking Rock, really, it’s just the hull.

I have the in-game music turned off, it was nice to start with but quickly became irritating, particularly the ambient stuff on planets. Off since early 2016 & don't miss it at all. Sometimes I'll put some of my own music on if I have a repetitive task like lots of CZs (funk) or trading (audio books or YouTube).

I used to use night mode so I could hear everything (my hearing isn't great) but the relative volumes got screwed up around 2.2 or 2.3 and I switched to boost & just turned the volume down a bit.

I use 5.1 surround & find it handy to guage the direction of incoming fire & stuff, the 3D sound Scape is excellent :)
