So, some planets locked. What's coming.

In the live stream yesterday, DB said that some planets will not be available for us to land on, i assume they will be locked out for some reason.
I noticed that look of "we are not telling you why" (smile)
So i wonder what they have planned for these worlds that is special. Could they be future Alien worlds, Thargoids even.
What are your thoughts, what do you think ED is planning for these worlds.

I think DB said on the live stream that locked planets would need permits, rather than just be completely banned as such. Maybe powerplay-related, capital worlds or some such. Plus, Horizons is just for airless worlds, so anything with an atmosphere would be off limits anyway for the time being.

Som locked fah future content development//release.

Guessin:

- Earth like gonna get biodomes/critters
- Water gonna get.... water critters? (Aqua Scarab?)
- Populated worlds gonna get structures an tings

..an so on. Needin time to develop (or content to sell!)

:D

Well, planets with atmospheres will significantly change the flight characteristics of most ships. I think they need time to program the behavoiur of the ships and to create new assets for those environments.

I'm also given to understand that Thargoids are methane-based life-forms, so all those planets with methane atmospheres would need to be off-limits until they are reintroduced to the universe - we can't have CMDRs scanning planets from up-close that then turn out to host Thargoid bases!

All planets with atmosphere's will be locked, we won't be getting on to the those planets till Season 3, that's already been confirmed by Michael I believe.

We will only hvae access to lifeless / non atmosphere planets in Season 2. Thats still a lot of planets and moons of course, but we wont be swooping over cities or seeing dinosaurs any time soon.

There are systems far far away permit locked

Some regions of the galaxy are locked to allow the development of the future expansions (Thargoids etc ...) had declared Frontier, in the past

Of course for ships with zilch for aerodynamics, like the Anaconda, that won't be an issue; they'll be using brute force anyhow.
The Anaconda will no doubt hang in the air the way that bricks don't

You cannot land on the Teleubbies planet and drive over the locals in your Scarab.

You cannot land on the "Into the Night Garden" planet and hunt Tombliboos with an elephant gun.

You cannot land on Endor and hunt Ewoks with a chainsaw.

Hmm.

Hmmmmmmmm.

Frontier, I will commit to paying you US$500 if you add all the above content.

He specifically said "some will be closed down, and we will tell you why later" with a wry smile. So i don't think he was talking about atmospheric planets.

You can hear it on stream here at around 19:30

David's smile at the time.

Player owned planets, with player owned bases.

I don't think so. They mentioned factions. As in ingame NPC factions. The recent push towards player groups who could officially back such a faction, would still not mean the players own the place.

And even then, a player-owned base even the a tiniest of moons is not sufficient to establish ownership. And planets being locked behind permits certainly will be an NPC-only thing.
