So, that screen between my legs ?

Been wondering during the beta what that screen between the legs will be for.... I thought maybe a rear-view display. Or maybe mirror something from the smartphone app to the screen (a boon for Rift users who get completely immersed).

But no - 1.0 is here and the screen is still blank.

Will we ever see something on there ? Any devs care to comment what it's supposed to be for ?

Perhaps it's not even a screen, and it's just somewhere to put my sandwiches ?

Wasn't there a screenshot taken from... somewhere a while back which showed it listing a navigation menu if I recall? Anyone remember that?

Way back in early beta they talked about adding a visual docking aid to help you get the big ships through the letterbox, my guess is it was meant to go on that screen.

It looks like a display screen with the potential to display all sorts of important and relevant in flight information, but in actuality it's a bucket; for all those entering the first to Elite competition.

i vote that its something to do with your escape pod, which is really just your chair and a small hyperdrive/thruster combo (anyone remember the old escape pods in frontier?).

Maybe it could be used to show user content in game?

watch a video during the long SC travel
or play a music clip in battels
or show custom pictures generated forexample of an extrenal program showing notes and trading data

My guess is it will be something to do with an expansion. Maybe that's where you deactivate your controls in order to leave your flight seat.
