Since 2.1 I've learned that I cannot go into a RES site with anything in my cargo hold unless I want to get attacked. I prefer High RES with lots of security forces around since my combat skills aren't that great. Dropped into a Hazardous site yesterday and got attacked by a wing of 3 and I was confused where that came from until I checked my hold and realized I'd earned a unit of some commodity from a recent mission. It's good to have 4 pips to shields while trolling around looking for a target so you have time to react -- in my case, high tailing it out of there! So empty cargo holds for me when RES farming so I can choose who to fight. So far, not a single NPC has initiated combat against me in a High RES if I have no cargo.
I almost always get interdicted now when running mission cargo. It makes the game a lot more exciting and interesting. Have to be alert and fly defensively. I got interdicted recently with an empty hold, but that's not common. I've made the mistake of trying to take out a Deadly Vulture with my Viper Mk IV, but now I just boost, boost, boost and low wake. Mistakes seem much more exaggerated now. It's not only losing your hull -- which I used to be able to manage -- but now your thrusters get knocked out and you're dead in the water. Seems that the time from losing shields to losing your ship is much faster than it used to be.
If you're not a great combat pilot, like me, then it's worth watching Vindicator Jones vids as he has some great tips on combat and escaping interdictions.
So the new AI takes some getting used to, but I think this is a great improvement. ED is no longer boring for me. Well done Frontier!
