So That's Why They Call It Dangerous

Since 2.1 I've learned that I cannot go into a RES site with anything in my cargo hold unless I want to get attacked. I prefer High RES with lots of security forces around since my combat skills aren't that great. Dropped into a Hazardous site yesterday and got attacked by a wing of 3 and I was confused where that came from until I checked my hold and realized I'd earned a unit of some commodity from a recent mission. It's good to have 4 pips to shields while trolling around looking for a target so you have time to react -- in my case, high tailing it out of there! So empty cargo holds for me when RES farming so I can choose who to fight. So far, not a single NPC has initiated combat against me in a High RES if I have no cargo.

I almost always get interdicted now when running mission cargo. It makes the game a lot more exciting and interesting. Have to be alert and fly defensively. I got interdicted recently with an empty hold, but that's not common. I've made the mistake of trying to take out a Deadly Vulture with my Viper Mk IV, but now I just boost, boost, boost and low wake. Mistakes seem much more exaggerated now. It's not only losing your hull -- which I used to be able to manage -- but now your thrusters get knocked out and you're dead in the water. Seems that the time from losing shields to losing your ship is much faster than it used to be.

If you're not a great combat pilot, like me, then it's worth watching Vindicator Jones vids as he has some great tips on combat and escaping interdictions.

So the new AI takes some getting used to, but I think this is a great improvement. ED is no longer boring for me. Well done Frontier!

Congrats on your adaption to the new AI. :)

It's so much more fun when we're not all potato farming!

I find the AI still slightly too easy, but to be honest, i don't get to play as much as i used too, so I probably haven't met the toughest AI yet.
My FDL seems as happy as ever in High and Haz Res'. Lol
FAS' are still the ships to watch out for above all others.
Not only are they just as tough as before, the new AI makes them ram quite alot. Lol

Fly safe CMDR!

Ha, I used to put stuff in the cargo hold deliberately, then head to high RES, more kills in less time, since the update, I don't play bait anymore.

Thanks, I'll have a look at them.

I just hope that there will be some fine-tuning for the AI's commodity choices. I do buy that an Eagle may want my butt if I'm carrying gold or some other high "value density", but currently they seem to be a bit indiscriminate and would kill for a hold of rubble.

Yes, FAS are tough. Partly because of their big guns, but also because they have a boost speed of about 400! Tried running from one after I made the dumb attempt to fight one. My shields were already down when I started running, couldn't escape him, and he took out my thrusters before my FSD could charge up. Never saw an NPC just stand off and watch me (for at least 30 seconds) without firing before finally deciding to finish me off. I guess he was waiting for me to dump cargo, but I couldn't repair my thrusters so figured it was worthless to try.

Yeah, I had trouble chasing one down in my FDL. That thing could move. Lol

Only thing I've noticed about about the federal ships, is the AI for them has a habit of randomly ceasing fire.
One FAS I 'fought', never even fired a shot. It just kept hugging my behind for 3 minutes until security actually help kill him. Lol

haven't read the whole thread but I'm disappointed, with that title I really really hoped this would be one of those sarcastic threads that gave the real reason behind the title (i.e. ranks) rather than some illusion that it was named thus due to inherent danger of playing...
