So, the Vulture seems good.

It seems everyone I see in open play either hasn't got the assets to buy a vulture or is in one. Granted, I mostly do BHing, so I don't see many traders or whatever.

So I punched it into google and had a look at the it's details.

240 shields, 160 hull, as near as makes no difference 5Mcr, 2x C3 hardpoints, 340 boost and very high maneuverability.

I've got to say, I can see why everyone and their dog is flying one.

And I'm going to go ahead and say, I think it needs a change. There are a lot of combat ships in the game and that one is used so much is just boring.

This is just my opinion and I'm open to changing my mind; I don't pretend to know everything about everything.

It just seems very good and overused, which is boring me.

I think the main reason we see that much is its price. Its probably the best ship for performance/price. When CMDRs stack up a bit more money, they'll be changing to bigger ones.

It needs leaving the hell alone. It's not perfect. I'm limited on mine in the fact i have no cargo space as i had to get rid of it so i could fit it out as a bounty hunting / exploring ship. It's no good for deep space exploration but scanning local unexplored systems brings in good money.

Rep to the Goon.

Is the Vulture a good ship? Most certainly. Does it need changing? Not to my way of thinking.

My perspective is from that of a relatively new player (1 month). After getting my feet wet in the Sidey (as so many affectionately refer to it) and discovering the joys of HB at RES, I quickly moved into a Cobra Mrk III and then generously outfitted it.

This allowed me to go for the larger bounties without getting my ass shot out from under me as I amassed enough credits to buy and outfit a Vulture. And that is where I am now. I have a nicely outfitted Vulture and I enjoy feeding on the rotting flesh of the carrion I create with it. PVE Pythons melt under the heat of my laser beams. ;)

However, I see the Vulture as a stepping stone up to more capable ships. To me it is the means to an end rather than an end of itself. It’s a very good bang for the buck ship and very capable. It does feel slightly OP having just come from a Cobra III, but I expected a good jump in performance given the cost delta between the two.

And that is where my perspective ends. Perhaps I’ll change my mind after getting experience in other ships. But for now, to me the Vulture feels about right giving that it is a pure fighter ship as opposed to a multipurpose.

I do hope you've tried all the combat viable ships in the game, including the vulture, before formulating your decision that it needs to be changed :)

I catch your drift and I put off buying one for that reason, plus, at heart, I am a multi role pilot. But I did get one eventually, still got a Cobra and an Asp but when you have to absolutely kill every pirate in a RES or you are on an assasination mission and you just want to get the job done I'm afraid the Vulture is 'it'.

It isn't without it's short comings though. Power management is always an issue, jump range, fuel tank range and speed are a handicap, it is actually a tad slower than an Asp. For these reasons I think that it is priced just about right but I think I'll keep mine in case they decide to nerf the asking price.

It is very agile, and it accelerates and brakes like an F1 car plus it's got two large hard points and a good number of utility points. It sounds really nice too.

It is a very focussed ship and a bit cliched, I think half of the ED CMDRs, including me, own one but don't discount it just because it's as common as a Ford Focus.

I think the vulture design, from a game standpoint, is flawless. It's a great combat ship, is a BLAST to fly... it can fly circles around anything, and it packs a great punch. But, it is terrible to go on long trips with, and it suffers from signifigant power issues. The ship sacrifices utility for the extra sized hard points. It is a great wheel in the cog, of the rock-paper-cisors design our ships have in this game. HOWEVER.. I do think they went too far with it's price cut. 20m was too high... but I think 5m is way too low. I would venture to say 12m would have been about right.

Vulture is upgraded Eagle , I love Eagle mainly it is bec it is so agile , vulture should be same agile if not better. But Vulture 2 large hardpoints, strong hull , and agility vs it's price , makes that ship very popular. And any player who mastered power management can make his vulture so strong and capable to handle any battle.

The vulture hull is weak (not compared to the eagle, of course)...all it's defense is in it's relatively tough shields.

A D4 Hull Reinforcement Package offsets the poor hull performance nicely. Couple it with 2x A0 Shield Boosters and you've got yourself a space tank.
