So, just by pure immersion and flying with coffee makers, you can go mad?
When you are half way across the galaxy and realise you have forgotten to buy any coffee, yes.
Yeah, it generally happens to explorers who leave the inhabited region for many weeks/months. Try it out and see, although then you may come back and view the people that never leave the inhabited "bubble" as the mad ones 
Absolutely especially as the two are incompatible with the one on the left being out of coffee pods and the one on the right out of water.

I too was cynical. My route to sag a* though .... you know that film with tom hanks marooned on a desert island? well he makes friends with a coconut who becomes his best mate. It's not just the lack of company though. You know that feeling when you're in a really long queue? At the airport, or post office. It's really boring in that queue. but you can't leave it. you've read most of the available signage on view, studied intensely a few interesting features around. you've assessed the duration it's going to take. every few minutes, you may shuffle forward a few feet, by now almost an automatic procedure, shuffle shuffle, kick bag forward. shuffle shuffle, kick bag forward. Well, anyway, it's a bit like that too.

Anyway! I didn't make it back. when 2.0 beta launched, I crashed my explorer asp into an asteroid as a way to get back to the bubble to check out new features. oops, i wasn't flying my beta explorer asp... am sure it was space madness that made me not see the absence of the beta text along the bottom...
