So this game nearly killed me

Never needed a heatsink yet.

Probably a difference in style of flying.
I set the controls for the heart of the sun. Then whizz round it fuel scooping.
Full ahead and left hand down a bit. ;)

I occasionally clip the exclusion zone especially if I have orbit lines off.

OP It does give you a jolt when you exit through a star. Your temperature spikes as well.

I generally scoop on each jump, and target the edge of the star's exclusion zone while I fly around it. Once I'm full on fuel, I aim to the next system and hit jump as soon as the sun changes colour (which means heat in my Asp usually gets into the 90s just before the jump). This is when travelling (rather than meandering :) ). When I'm at the controls (and not sidetracked by other things), I'll be coming out of hyperspace full-throttle. There is always enough time to correct speed/direction for interesting systems as the ship is at zero throttle after the jump anyway (having full throttle on simply means that it starts accelerating immediately).

When I hit the trinary, I did suffer some heat damage, but was able to repair most of the issues with the AFMU (once I'd escaped and calmed down [big grin]).

I came into this system a couple days ago, scared the crap outta me. The one on the left is the primary, coming out of jump I skimmed the very edge of the middle star and landed in between both. Of course heat immediately jumped, I didn't bother even trying to scoop, just bugged out.

This thread reminds me of this fun system:

Came out right through a star and landed right smacked inbetween the other two.
Dropping out of witchspace with 110% heat is ... 'exciting' ... :D

Never-ever-ever go AFK on hyperspace jump. Or supercruise, for that matter. Find a safe moment to drop into normal space...or better yet just log out of the game temporarily. :p

You can throttle down to 30km/s in supercruise (AWAY from any stars!) and go for break that way. I do it all the time :)

To OP: I always have some heat sinks when exploring for emergencies like this. Has saved me countless times and it great as I can take a few more risks with heat or even do some jumps very close to stars and just heat sink it so I can jump faster (if I have lots of heat sinks left near inhabited space and just want to get back).

Or throttle up and see how fast you can go. Guess the limit? ;)

No Spoilers. :p

I never leave home without them. They are handy when flying with the orbit lines, off.

I come out of ftl (throttled down of course) and i see myself fly THROUGH a star.

Seems like a bug. According to 2.2 patch notes that shouldn't happen anymore:

It is no longer possible to travel through or end up inside another star if you hypespace into a multi-star system. If an intervening star is detected your hyperspace will be redirected onto that star. This process repeats if the new path is also obstructed.

Which is also the only way to jump to a secondary star. Where are my micro-jumps? :D

Even that leaves you vulnerable to the chance of interdiction, plus your fuel consumption in supercruise is much faster than sitting stationary in normal space. Which is still inferior to simply at least exiting to the main menu.

Wait til you drop into a close orbiting trinary system!

If you're unlucky enough to end up in the centre of the 3 stars you won't even be able to see a way out, and will generally need to pull up while simultaneously turning every non essential module off to lower heat, especially the fuel scoop.

It's one of the few things out there that adds any risk for explorers.

Just remember, never ever ever answer the phone/door/wife or take a bathroom break while in hyperspace, there's a good chance you'll return to the rebuy screen!

better thing to do is actually drop out from supercruise in normal space, your temp will go down a lot, then you can just high wake out with minimal heat damage taken..if you dont have heatsinks

As another poster pointed out, the game is called Elite DANGEROUS. You can reduce your chances of driving into a star on exit from witch-space by simply zeroing the throttle while in witch-space. The ship will still continue to move forward when it exits witch-space because it exits witch-space into Supercruise but your ship will exit witch-space at the minimum Supercruise speed of (I think) a sedate 32 Km/sec.

I use this because my "home" system has a white-dwarf primary that gets very big in the window, very fast if the ship exits witch-space at full throttle so when jumping into my "home" system I always zero the throttle as the ship enters witch-space, giving me plenty of time to react and maneuver in the proper direction when I arrive.

Been in a few binary and trinary star systems. I rather like binary stars - fuel-scooping in figure-8's all day until my tank is full is fun.
And fuel-scooping in figure 696's is even more fun, but I tend to top off long before I finish that last loop.
