I certainly understand your Elite Dangerous withdrawals.
I use a custom built external liquid cooling system. Been doing this for 14+ years. Originally I did an external setup to help move the ambient heat away from the computer and my desktop area. My gaming computer setup was in a tiny room and I did not have to worry about getting cold in the winter, as it could get quite warm in there. I had extra long tubes running around the baseboard to the pump, and housing whcih was clear across to the other side of the room.
Although it can be a PIA to setup, it is definitely worth using a liquid cooling solution in my opinion. I will not have one without some type of flowmeter / temperature monitor. I found Thermaltake’s FlowTXPlus FlowMeter works quite well: http://www.xoxide.com/thermaltake-flowtx-flowmeter-wi.html
