So, we have a date for the next premium beta

Newsletter #28

The Premium Beta phase is progressing well, and we will be releasing Premium Beta 2 on Tuesday 24th June.

Also, as a nice bonus:

One very important point to note, Premium Beta 2 will unavoidably reset your progress, although we will automatically gift you credits to the approximate value of your progress to date (including credits and ship, so you will be able to immediately buy your ship again). We do apologise for the inconvenience, but there have been some significant changes that have required it.

*EDIT* Ninja'd by Erimus! Mods please feel free to merge...

Quite a few little nuggets in the newsletter, most happy :)

Interesting though that the alpha testers aren't being given this new release before premium beta testers. Is this to calm the masses, or FD simply saying that they're confident and happy for this build to go out to all testers? :)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Can't wait for missions and other ways to generate cash. I stopped playing earlier after getting reset to the basic Sidewinder - just couldn't bring myself to grind out pirates to afford anything better.

Hopefully the new trade ship won't be too terribly expensive so that I can trade up to it soon. Otherwise it'll be back to killing NPCs for hours and hours and hours just to get the next level ship.

Yeah, a little odd that since it was a 'selling point' for people wanting to get Alpha at the last second. Hope we don't have angry forum threads about this now <goes to find somewhere to wait until it all blows over>

Slightly annoyed at this... I've been resetting any progress for 'known baseline testing', instead of amassing credits and farming as it was known that a wipe would be coming.

Oh well...

No doubt pitchforks will be raised and fires will be lit by those who take everything too personally ;)

I'm not bothered we're not getting it before beta testers, if it means FD are confident it'll be such an improvement over the current build that we should all get it in one go :)

More nuggets:

Three new star systems have been added, above those in Premium Beta 1. Those are Aulin, LHS 3006 and Styx:

Aulin – a K7 yellow/orange star
Aulin has a rich, high population high tech and tourist economy (a Federal Corporate State).

Aulin 2, called ‘Nirvana’ is a lush, exotic, verdant outdoor world, rich in indigenous life. A high tech largely biotech and pharmaceutical industry developed initially from exploiting the biological wonders found in the vast equatorial cloud forests. Tourists come to see the incredible beauty of the largely undamaged flora and fauna, vigorously protected by the Aulin Corporation. There is also some farming of high value local produce.

You will already have seen some sneak peeks of the Orbis class of starport; an Orbis, Aulin Enterprise can be found orbiting Nirvana.

LHS 3006 – an M5V orange/red dwarf star
LHS 3006 has a low population extraction economy (a Federal Corporate State).

A tiny system, recently (in stellar terms) stripped of its planets in a close encounter with another star, leaving just Vulcan in the eccentric orbit it has today. Vulcan is still in the process of cooling and reforming from the cataclysm, with the giant ring system the only remnant of the other body with which it collided. Ores and minerals are readily available in both the rings and on the surface, and are actively mined by the WCM Corporation.

Styx – an M4 orange/red dwarf star
There is no registered population in the Styx system.

There's another point to note. It would require running two versions of the game in order to pre-release it to alphas without simply switching the betas off. This would require significant use of resources for something that doesn't actually improve the game. Better to use those resources productively, in my opinion.

But then, I'm a beta... So I would say that... ;)

This newsletter contains mucho eye pron-ace! I'm liking that we now have a low cost trading shuttle and those Orbis stations...I can't wait for next Tuesday:D

Only if they had no way of handling two running versions (on different servers or ports for instance). As they know from your logged in account what you're 'entitled' to, they'd be able to point you at X or Y servers depending on what you're able to test... easy really.

I doubt they ever planned on turning beta players off to give a newer version to alpha testers ;) But still, I'm more than happy for beta and alpha testers to get the same version at the same time, in essence I 'was' an alpha tester - I'm a beta tester too now... ;)

Well they didn't say us alpha backers don't get it before the rest. June 24 has 24 hrs in it. But i find this a strange fact too. Since it was a privilege given to the alpha backers by Frontier/DB. They even used this fact as a way to get more players pledging into the alpha stage. I found it hard to find this anywhere, most threads with this fact vanished, but it is still there to be found. Just read newsletter 18 (see quote below).

For anyone still interested in joining the Alpha now but unsure if it is worth it for a short period of time before we start the Premium Beta - here are two fantastic reasons;
- As we move into the Beta process, all Premium and standard Beta builds will be given exclusively to the Alpha players first.

So an explanation why, if everyone gets it now at same time, i would like to see.
