So what do you call yours?

This popped up in another thread when a player asked for suggestions in naming one of the soon to be new imperial war ships (An extra prize for being one of the top dogs in the CG the lucky sod) and I got to thinking do my ships need naming? And if so what are those names. Bit of head scratching later and here's what I came up with:

dominus de caelo (Latin for Lord of heaven) is my imperial cutter

Ejice umbra (Latin for cast no shadow) is my cobra Mk3

ive yet to come up with anything I like for my Python.

well that's as far as I've got, so have u named your ships? If so what are they called

Cmdr 13A

Sidewinder - The Mellow Yellow

Cmdr 24B

Adder - Juliette

Cobra - The Crimson Cobra

On my old save (now cleared)
Cobra IV - The Whichness of Why
Asp - The Veil Runner
FAS - Keeping the blade
Python - Eastbound & Down
DBX - The Black Veil

My main Smuggler Asp is named Bessy IV. My FdL is Bessy V, and my Anaconda is Bessy VI. All of my "main" ships are named in that series, the middle name of my wife and best friend of over 20 years.

I've only given two of my ships names: BimbleYomp, my trusty Asp Explorer, and Patricia the Python. At some point I'm going to get myself an Anaconda which will probably merit a name - if I can think of something better than Ironing Board. ;)

I get my names from mythology/folklore and tend to use Pantheon.org as inspiration

Cobra is Bacchus (it has the Onionhead paint job on it so seemed appropriate)
T6 is Mikula
DBX is called Gudridur as she was my first proper exploration vessel
Asp Explorer is called Gudridur II
Viper Mk4 is Kali

I also have a T7 that is currently unnamed. I must really think of something.

And yes, I would like ship naming to come sooner rather than later.

My Asp is The Starduster (after the ship flown by Scott McCloud, Space Angel - and yes, some of you are too young and may have to look that one up).

My current Type 7 that was used to go to Jaques Station is The Philip J Frye (a delivery boy).

My ships

ASP EXPLORER - Galathea ( honor to original Galathea Sailing Ship on 18th century )
Python - Roving Vagabond
Vulture - Velvet Hand
T9 - Nostromo ( Alien 1 )
Cutter - Space Movers ( original galactica 80´ serie )

Only named my Cobra III - Invictus.

I didn't bother naming the others as they come and go as I didn't keep ships, just picked them up and fitted as I needed. That is changed now with "Engineers" gear. Once we have module storage I'll trim down again.

(Unconquerable / Undefeated in Latin)

My main Cobra is the Gun Runner, The Python I used in CZs to get to Elite (I no longer have it) was the Thug.

Not big on names, but if I had the opportunity I'd name them all something descriptive.

  • Adder:- Guppy.
  • Imperial Eagle:- Beau(fighter) (after the WW2 aircraft).
  • Python:- Abdiel (after HMS Abdiel the WW2 minelayer).
  • Fer de Lance:- Aurora (after the goddess of the golden dawn).
  • Anaconda:- Thermopylae (after the tea clipper).

That would be a whose on first kind of name.

Sir, we have an incoming cutter.
Designation?
Something descriptive, sir.
What, like blue cutter or something.
No, just something descriptive.
Yes soldier, but what is it describing.

My FdL with tactice ice paint is called 'The Withering Snow', my explonda is called 'Petrichor' (the term for the smell of rain of dry soil). :)

So long as I have one ship, right now a Sidewinder, it will be Chúl an Chnoic which is an Irish translation for Back of the Hill. That's an area near Ardagh in Co. Longford, Ireland, my great-grandfather was born there.

When I get back to owning a Cobra I think it will be Blade Runner. I'll probably name another ship after my wife, the Terri Leigh, but I haven't decided on what ship model would be good. She'll probably want something sexy so I'll have to deal with the Empire even if I don't to.

Since my game character has ancient ancestry in New Zealand ("Akarana" being one of the Maori names for Auckland), my Asp Explorer is "Tuhura" which means "explore" in Maori.
