Community Event / Creation So what do you listen to when flying about?

Searched for a bit for the topic. I know it was covered here and there in some posts unrelated to the question so I'm putting out there on blast for everyone. What do you listen to when flying about? Any answer welcome I'll start with my latest I'll update and see if people dig.

Lately is NEWCLEUS: Yes the Jam on it people.

Their band/albums were space themed and some of their music really throws you back with the old school space theme. My favorites are...

1. Destination Earth - Perfect for cruising about in space
2. Computer Age
3. Why

I'm also going to throw in there that I played Harold Faltermeyer's Top Gun Theme - Blue Camel version (after usually collecting a ton of bounty) some 70's and 80's electronic and dance music and finally some Kraftwerk and Vangelis.

I'll add more as I think of them.

EDIT: Here they are plus I didn't think of it but a lot of modern new wave outrun type of music works well in certain situations added some.

Nothing. I find the music makes hearing the various sounds more difficult to hear and therefore you are more likely to miss audible clues (like a ship overtaking you as you are entering amd exiting a station for example).

I love the game sounds in ED. :)

Newcleus sound fun, I'll have to check em out.

Some of the stuff I've been listening to (spoilered in case it's a horrible mess to look at) My favourites are bolded;

Sleep Research Facility's "Nostromo" is inspired by the movie Alien, particularly the opening scenes before the crew are awoken.
Roly Porter's Life Cycle of A Massive Star is as awesome as it sounds.

Eagle, your Top Gun reference made me laugh. My all time Elite companion track is ' Tales of the future ' which can be found on the Blade runner soundtrack 25 Anniversary addition;I also like ' Launch approval ' and ' Mail from India '. Also Pumping on my Cobra Mk3 stereo are the Alien soundtracks 1,2, and 3; Also i like tracks from David Lynch's Dune, Gravity and Prometheus.

Call me old fashioned ;) or just call me old  but I really love to listen to the sounds of the original Elite  Coming from a time where two younger brothers would usually have a wireless playing (that's like DAB today) :p my original Elite memories are linked to so many of these bad boys ;)

If your not from the original era, sit back, relax (don't do it!) and pick your favourite.

Top 100 from 1984

My current go to tune is this

"I" won't let the Sun, go down on me

...and for a REAL treat... don't hunt them out, here's a intro clip, ENJOY!

Happy days :)

...finally, if you played the original beyond 1984 you will recognise these too I'm sure.

Happy days 2 :)

I downloaded an original recording of Blue Danube and play it when docking... vinyl crackles and all (it's setup to play when I tell VA that I'm approaching a station) no docking computer for me.

I often play Convoy, or the Smokey and Bandit theme (Eastbound and Down) when on a trade run.

Going into battle my VA is setup to start playing Ride of the Valkyrie, but inly a short burst as I like to concentrate :)

I expect I'll end up listening to relaxing ambient sci-fi type of music. Here's some personal favorites: Aes Dana, Asura, Bluetech, Easily Embarassed, Hol Baumann, John Stanford, Omnimotion, Zero-Project, and Zero Cult. I also enjoy many of the songs from Lisa Gerrard's album 'Departum'. These are all available on Spotify.

My plan is to configure Voice Attack so that I can control the music vocally.

Interesting so you tell the computer to switch tracks? very cool!

What do I listen to? The sound of my beating heart as I make another perilous trek across space carrying a small fortune that I might lose at any second.

My selection changes with my moods, but my current playlist includes 2 Cosmos albums, Albedo 0.39, Jupiter Menace, Tron Legacy and the Heavy Metal soundtrack. "Working in a Coalmine" by Devo is by far the best tune to listen to while grinding cargo runs.

I should also mention I'm a huge fan of late 70s, and 80s British Progressive Rock band The Alan Parsons' Project.

A lot of his instrumental work is well suited to the atmosphere of Elite which incidentally was originally from the same time period. A few links below:

I have a two steps from hell playlist that has a whole bunch of action movie instumental with choir type heroic sounding music that goes well if your into combat.

Fairly typical track http://youtu.be/ASj81daun5Q

One of my favourite songs currently is Omega by Bruce inson (Iron Maiden singer) A really nice touching song that seems to be about the far distant future when the earth is eventually consumed by the sun. Goes very well with navigating around the new fiery solar flares :)

http://youtu.be/AxqQT3UvXkM

Navigate the Seas of the Sun is cool too. About how eventually we (our children) will be exploring the universe that until recently we had barely any idea of the sheer wonder of it's brilliant existence.

http://youtu.be/-ZBLT5pmtvg

There are quite a few others too. His other job being an airline pilot and thoughtful, creative guy. I think he thinks about space often as it crops up in a few other songs too.

Much depends on whether your exploring, trading of fighting :)

Mainly 80s rock but I like similar to Newcleus, like Poweglove, Megadrive, Kavinsky etc there plenty more just use the suggested links on you tube to find similar artists, very niche modern 80s electro..

Current playlist, far from final...

Since the track names don't give any source away:
DeusEx Revolution (a special edition, not the normal OST)
Alien
Gravity (won't keep it I guess, doesn't fit too well)
Theme from "Gunpoint" (just love it)
Theme/Intro from "Blade Runner (own cut without the vocals)
Star Trek

The DeuxEx soundtrack, one of the best game soundtracks anyways, goes tremendously well with Elite. Same goes for the selected Alien tracks.

Highly recommended!

Where's the game music?

Personally I'd rather have the option to have the in game music rather than keep dropping in and out of full screen mode to skip a track I'm not in the mood for.

At the moment I only hear music while inside the stations.

I'm sure in elite 2 there was music most of the time.

You can always create a hotkey if you don't have media keys on your keyboard. I use foobar because I can use my cell phone to control it from anywhere in and around the house. Plus it auto fades the music when the phone rings or in conversation and fades back when you hang up. Very handy if your a contract 3d artist up all hours.
