So what is the point of Engineer reputation rank now?

Currently when you unlock Engineer reputation rank this allows you to access the next grade of engineering blueprints for their whole catalogue. Engineer rep can also be traded for experimental effects.

If I understand correctly you wont be using Engineer rep to buy experimental effects anymore, you can use materials to buy them and you have to progress every module you want to engineer to grade 5 max through levels 1 to 5 each time.

If this is the case then what is the point of having the reputation rank with the engineer? This now seems redundant if what level of upgrades you can access is reliant on how many rolls have been made on a per-module basis.

Doesn't it?

I can't recall having seen or read anything that covers this, though there may be something, I just may have missed it. Assuming there isn't any real info yet, we may find out when the Beta goes live in two days.

Not particularly helpful, I know. You do, however, raise an interesting point, and I'm sure there are more folks curious about the answer. Maybe Fdev or someone in the know will drop by and enlighten us. :D

Yeah it's pretty much redundant.

They probably looked at folk's rolls and saw a huge wodge of G5s optimising, a handful of 2/3/4 getting there and playing and then a huge wodge of G1's levelling and relevelling after buying specials and... well... this. Which makes perfect sense in that context. People were just playing it, this can't be played. Seems good for the game really but a bit sucky for those with lower engineering aims.
