So what now?

TL : DR? here. a summary: I am selling my big ships so I can buy small ships

Right now I am collecting materials for my corvette to re-engineer it.

But I find myself questioning: what after that?

Fly my corvette around? Nope. Can't. I only have 122mil credits. I can't afford re-buys for a big ship like my corvette that is sitting at 30mil

So I'm thinking I'll kill thargoids using the new guardian tech. after all I could outfit a chieftain for that.
Much cheaper. and could make a lot of cash from that
BUT
I can't find thargoid interceptors and keep finding thargoid scouts...

Okay...

So what now?

Maybe rob a megaship?

Oh wait...

I tried that in beta and all that the mega ship had was vegetable oil and its turrets burned through my cutter's shields in seconds

What would be fun and make lots of credits?

Skimmer killing?

Nope... that was just removed from the game.

Really all I can do is just take my chieftain and modify it for combat then just hunt pirates in hi-rez zones.

OR

I just dust off my cutter and do boom state hauling missions in it. after all I can make 50million in a day with that... but its so boring! And I can't afford the re-buy on my cutter...

When was the last time I had fun in this game without the need for loads of credits and/or a big ship?
Well my dropship and hunting pirates in it.
So I guess until I have 300mil again I am just going to switch to my chieftain and just go shoot pirates.
Hell I can even switch over to my cobra mk4 and slap my guardian charging plasmas on it and make a mini monster. and even if I die my re-buy will be tiny

And now I am considering just selling all of my big ships
cause there is no way for me to fly them as I didn't abuse the transport bug that gave everyone 200billion...
Big ships have no point.
The big 4 are just a waste of time.

I could sell my cutter, corvette, anaconda, and type 10 and then buy a type 9. use that to gather 50mil a day for a week... buy every small and medium ship in game... and have fun.
fun.
YOU REMEMBER?! THIS IS A GAME! I'm here to have fun!

Used to be so much fun to fly my corvette.
"I'm in a big battleship!" I'd say to myself.
But now the credits are gone. I can't afford to keep my corvette.

Hell the only reason I started playing elite was to fly a big battleship like the anaconda or corvette.
grinded 2 years to get my anaconda.

I had my fun.

now I am done.

How do you lose a corvette?

Actually I've only died once in my corvette...
Which was against a thargoid before we got the ax weapons.

But I am always paranoid that I might die.

Probably some form of sarcasm/joke post.

122mil is more than enough to cover a few rebuys, even for an A rated Vette.

Yes and no

I am a paranoid person and like to have enough money for 10 rebuys... even though I am in solo

That thud is the sound of you hitting the limits of your imagination. Have you tried exploration? There are some quite beautiful sights out there... for a game.

So, you're claiming poverty but you've got at least a Corvette, a Cutter and a 122MCr cash in hand, and despite having all this, you don't know how to make more than 50MCr a day?

I purposely got the big 3 ASAP. Knew they'd be fun in their own way, but wanted my personal end game to be smaller ships. :3

I am loving my Chieftain though and the Viper Mk3. Cant wait to fly other medium and small ships. They're so fun!

I have. I saw the most beautiful sight of a black hole in a green nebula...
Now everything else I see is bad...

Though maybe I could do a tour of every guardian site in the game... I quite like them

Yes, sorry, that sounded more condescending than I intended. What I meant is that I felt a similar despondency in my early/mid game. When I decided to kit out my Asp for exploration travel further afield, it completely changed my perception of what Elite is all about.

Is it just me... or did Players flock onto the Skimmer Exploit like flies on "Biowaste" ?

And now that the Exploit has been quickfxed, Obi-Wan could suddenly hear the cries of a thousand Exploiters... xD
The only thing I do wonder about : seems that all those "Billionaire in a single Day" Players even get to keep their exploited Credits. But still complain they weren't able to Exploit more out of it. The nerve...

Seems always the same. Some guys can't make 1-2 Billion per Day anymore - comments like "Game now unplayable" arise like wildfire.

Makes me wonder if the proverbial "Millennials" have rushed into the Game (?)
All that very strongly reminds me of this :

I'm not a millenial complaining that my exploit was removed. after all I have 122mil. not 200bil

My money making method is still in game and strong. its just not FUN anymore.

Maybe you should take day off as a mental health day?

...

I noticed. And by the way - that is a reason I fully support. The big ships are a huge, but largely deceptive draw. I cannot deny the money making "Jack of all trades" potential of the Anaconda. Nor can I deny that - in a Haz Res for PVE, the Corvette is practical invulnerable [and thereby very dull]. Nor can I deny that the Cutter is the ultimate Community Goal hogger.

But when it comes to fun. An Eagle with some long-range beams, or a DBS with Rails (or whatever stokes your barge) taking on ships against the odds is simply much, much more fun.

I somewhat understand your point.

I prefer small and medium sized ships for playing this game for fun. I have a Corvette, Anaconda and Beluga (and could buy the Cutter, T-9 and T-10 without problem) it's just that I almost never use the big ships.
Like you I simply think that the rebuy of those big ships are too high for me to bother using them. Not that there would be a problem to earn enough credits to cover the very rare re-buy event. It's just the thought that having to spend X amount of time to recover from a potential loss that makes it less fun for me.

My advice is to keep the big ships you have and just earn enough credits for your preferred small or medium sized ship. Maybe even start D rated and have fun upgrading it on the go.

Then do a mix of various activities to prevent getting "burn out" or getting bored. A few cargo missions, then some RES farming, then something else - what ever you think is fun at that point.

Feel the same op ignore the white knights their comments are far from realistic and are often based on the presumption that there are many things you have not done.
I myself have the same problem. To have fun you need lots of credits to cover outfitting rebuy and acquiring ships yet it is not possible for people with jobs and family to make that kind of money realistically.
Even obsidian ant put out a video about it the game is just broken as is.
Personally I am dropping elite at least for a while.

O7

I'm with you on this one, OP.
With exception of Anaconda, which served as my long-range exploration ship, economy-class passenger ship and other roles, I find the rest of big three... useless.

I would rather have the big3 completely removed from the game, and remainder of ships rebalanced towards more scissor-paper-rock mechanics, and flatten their prices somewhat.
Or perhaps specialize them, so that the different role is the flavor, rather than sustaining stupid "I want bigger ship" power creep. Bigger is not better and too many people fall for it, myself included.

Although it needs to be said, Elite has so many problems that simply removing big3 and rebalancing wouldn't cut it. There are far more issues resulting in power creep, lack of balance, gold rushes etc.
But they didn't build Rome overnight ;)

Wow, that was a pretty strange, meandering rant, OP.

Millennials? It could be worse; we could have more incontinence pants wearing players who play with their tartan slippers on while watching 'Countdown' - fortunately the original EDers' numbers are diminishing with the inexorable march of time!

Moral of the story? Don't generalise - we can all resort to tired stereotypes in a passive-aggressive style. Believe it or not, we're not all like your lazily depicted 'millennial'; I've never jumped on any get-rich-quick bandwagon - exploit or otherwise - in 3 yrs playing this game!

Hence, as Prince once said "Act your age, not your shoe size!" Whoops - you wouldn't be playing vid games if you did that, would you?!...you'd be down at the crown green bowling club or your allotment, instead (Sorry - I see now how you inadvertently lapsed into unfair prejudice, previously - it's just so easy to do, isn't it?!)
