So... What now?

Ok, well I have traded a bit, I have explored alot, I have fought, and mined. Have done countless missions. I am not maxed out in level or anything but have no motivation to continue.

Any suggestions on what else I can do? Am I missing anything?
Ive already moved on to the next open-world game! In the current state ED wasnt worth the investment for me.
So yeah, my suggestion is to pick the next game of interest! And maybe check back into ED in a year, because I doubt there will be significant changes that add more motivation soon.

This is a sandbox. You can literally do anything.
Sorry, but a very dull and unresponsive sandbox. And definatly not a sandbox for creativity (e.g. Minecraft, Kerbal, Prison Architect etc), and you definatly cant do "anyhing". Theres no room for emergent gameplay.
"Been there, done that" is reached pretty soon. Too soon.

you could get an oculus rift.... Not sure why but somehow even doing the most mundane stuff is really exciting when you are actually IN your spaceship as opposed to looking at it on a screen. **

**Not a serious suggestion, at least not till we hear from oculus tomorrow

Truth is if you are not enjoying it as it is right now, as others have said, go play something else and come back in 6 months time.

How about playing the faction game?
Choose a system you like, has a couple of good trading routes etc. Pick a minor faction to work for and only do their missions and only trade to a station they own.
Become friendly then allied and either
1) If they are the owning faction of the system, see if you can get them to expand into nearby systems.
2) If they dont currently own the system, build them up to a point of civil war, once they own the system go to point 1.
Hopefully later this will also expand out into new systems ferrying goods to build new stations.

I dont care for the credits/ship grind, it is something that happens while i am doing something else. Friends and I are currently trying the above within a little 50ly bubble we have currently come to call home :). I understand there maybe other players working the area that are detrimental to our efforts but im having fun, missions offered are becoming better paid, a nearby system that is one of my main trade routes has gone into civil war so i am also fighting on their behalf.

I do hope this is something FD add a little more depth to. Even though i am having fun doing the above it would be nice to know what my choices are e.g I have chosen to work for a cooperate group but what difference would it of made if i choose the democratic/political faction if any?. How do i know if my chosen faction are currently winning the civil war? Some kind of local entry in galnet would be nice to let you know what is actually happening locally or some kind of info in the factions tab other than just a Civil War Pending label or something visual like conflict zones ebbing and waning depending on the state of. Some of this may already be happening and im just not noticing, I have noticed a change in number and position of conflict zones but i am just not seeing the connection at the moment.

Never the less this is what i am currently doing, means i am doing a little of everything trading, missions, bounty hunting, conflicts etc all with the intent of expanding my currently chosen home system and its controlling faction.

Haha - but you should have outfitted an repair thingy...

But it doesn't repair anything useful. :p

You're not in a spaceship, in your mother's basement with a monitor strapped to your face in your underpants**

Hmm... well anyone out there want to take this journey with me? Also any ship recommendations? Currently in a cobra well the view is ok but the ship doesnt travel well

I'm in a cobra, with a 23.74 LY range, and now, over 12,000 light years on the clock (plus another 7,000 by the time I get home)

I would give devs a while to implement multiple-characters function, you could do so much more then!
I would instantly create a new char and head for Empire to become their deadliest (and brainless-nest, if that's a word :p) servant-assassin :).

So far, it's just one character, one way and cautious approach to everything as it's easy to ruin your reputation, fixing it is a pain in the neck at the moment.

You see this is exactly the reason I am dead against multiple charachter slots. Players will grief and experiment attacking players in big ships with no comeback. It will totally ruin the game turning it into a game full of Japanese Kamikazee pilots. You don't do this right now because it affects you and because you have to deal with the consequences but are quite happy to when you don't.

This game has been dumbed down considerably at launch. Whatever happened to being interdicted by anything other than police for example? This will just be another change in that same direction making it easy for players to 'practice without responsibility'.

Please God this never happens. It would be a really big mistake!

Trade rare commodities. There's a thread on it listing where to buy them.
I have a circular route that nets ~1.5 - 2 MCr per circuit depending on availability.

Yet, here you are. Still reading the forums

I tired that and lost money. I'll do some more research on it. Thanks for the heads up.

What is it that so many people are afraid of griefing? Currently I am fixed in a single character. If I want to explore the galaxy, I can only do that and nothing else. If I would like to see the lagoon nebula, I am bound to exactly that. For multiple days.
It would be a pleasure to just let that one character where it is and use a second one for trading and/or hunting back home.

I hate it when people just complain that such a change would totally ruin a game, because "everybody would go nuts and grief others" without knowing what the outcome will be.

All other MMOs I played had more than a single character slot. Even the other Elite titles had the possibility to load different commanders. However, I understand that a commander might cost money (because of the servers) though.

i have to agree that, mechanically at least, you'll reach a wall relatively soon. i mean, every system you explore is effectively the same, they just look different and give you different amounts of cash but mechanically, exploration is always the same. this goes with everything else.

what you could do is just set up your ship(s) differently. there are some options that allow some variance in combat.

i personally just keep changing my role to keep it fresh. yesterday i was the explorer. today i was the delivery boy. tomorrow maybe a fighter? i don't know.

but if you really have reached a wall and really don't know what to do or don't even want to do something of the existing game mechanics, then stop playing for a while until it itches you again.

i personally have some ideas that would keep the game experience more fresh for everyone but this would involve the community to actually participate in certain events. you know, add some community stories to the galaxy and let's create our own points of interest. let's meet, let's fight, let's do trade runs etc... i haven't found things like this where people maybe write an article about a conflict in a specific system and people actually go and meet there. you know, stuff like, let's make our own content with the tools that we have. admittedly the tools we can use are very limited and frontier actually could assist us with spawning huge battlecruisers or rare goods or whatever to create a point of interest for players. you know, create a more dynamic universe overall.
