So... Whats in it for me?

Went to Beaufoy Vision today trying to be a knight in a fairly shining armour. But what more to it is it? Not much money, hardly any rep, cant seem to track how many lives I saved and no collective gain? Only thing I got was a kentucky fried ship and a bounty on my head because a loose fragment made me crash into a wall, making the police shoot at both me and the people I was saving...
Why bother?

It’s cool seeing the damaged stations and the evacuation efforts underway but like you say, it can feel like it’s a bit all for nothing.

If you wanna help out with the damaged stations there’s a big effort to get Obsidian Orbital back online. I’ve been hauling water purifiers from Corrigan Terminal (something like 8LY away) recently and you can see the percentage of required goods drop so you feel like your contributing. There’s no auto dock available so requires manual landing but the stations not on fire anymore so no KFS :) So far a bunch of required goods goals have been completed but there’s still a load to go. I doubt a lot of the stations will ever get back online at this rate but if the community concentrated on specific ones we have a good chance of getting them back in a decent amount of time.

Because at the end of the day, the only one you have to impress is your self.

I'm courious as to how did you know that. I mean, did you just happen by and noticed it or what?

Galnet ingame, look for an article called Starport Status Update. There's two kinds, one that notifies you of impending lockdowns due to Thargoid sensor interference, and another that lists the repairing starports and the list of commodities needed. The exact system locations can also be found on the Galaxy Map by tabbing all the way over to Options and making sure the boxes next to "Show Damaged Starports" and "Show Repairing Starports" are checked.

What? the effort to get Obsidian Orbital back online? I knew the stations needed goods to get back online from Galnet so I thought I’d try and help. I saw a post on the Dangeous Discussion about Obsidian Orbital and thought i’d help out there given there was a collective effort going on. I just used EDDB to find out what good stuff were closest and available in large amounts and used my Conda until I got my cutter and now I’m using that to shift the purifiers. Some of the other goods are quite the distance so may need to switch back to my Conda.

If you check the News articles at Obsidian Orbital you will find an article displaying the specific goods required and number / percentages for each one so you can plan what your going to transport. Or check the Galnet article like damon8r351 suggested.

The Community Goals always seem to say that CMDRs will reap significant rewards from participating in the CG but I never seem to see it. The risk vs. reward, cost/benefit analysis always seems to come out on the "stay away" side of the equation. o7

Ah, Galnet, haven't bothered since launch to get involved with that. Got a lot of time now, reckon I pick up a copy and read it. Thanks for the heads up.

'not much money' - yeah generally that's how it works out for knights, doing stuff because they want to help not because of the paycheck, helping poor generally isn't something that gives an instant high paycheck.
'hardly any rep' - well how much work did you do, remember we are usually talking factions of quite large sizes it is going to take a while to gain a reputation?

So maybe, I should rather ask, what were you expecting to gain for how much effort?

I've got an atta boy somewhere I haven't used in a while, if it helps any, I'd give it to him.

rewards for effort and balancing thereof has been an issue since launch with much debate about whether this is or is not an important point of the game....

I personally dislike it, but accept it as the current modus operandi of the game. Making money - doesn't always equate to either effort or risk and there are plenty of you tube video out there attesting the same across all platforms and play styles.

Some have 'money makers' they keep private for obvious reasons - some brag about them and they end up nerfed... I suppose perhaps that idiom may indeed be part of Frontiers game mechanic....finding a profitable venture and keeping it quiet.

Because this is a game, without the feeling of progression, I would've liked a motivation of some sort. Going back and forth, getting shot at for "nothing", wasnt quite enough for me to keep going. Now I understand I couldve tracked my own statistic, but knowing that Im not sure Im going back.
Much more rewarding feeling the progression by helping the likes of Obsidian Orbital then...
