Hardware & Technical So when did SLI start working with Elite?

Been playing around with sli while waiting for my new gpu to ship. And lo & behold, it actually works with elite now!

Looking at my gpu usage, both gpus are being utilised, with vsync on, they're only at 20% usage each (@4k/max settings), which is about right, as with a single gpu it would be around 40% usage. Unlocking the framerates sees both gpus go to 100% usage and a noticeable lift in framerates over a single card.

Not seen any oddities or stutter, it all seems to work just fine. Certainly worth exploring if you'd written off sli and elite.

I'm using driver version 399.24.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's always worked, even if it wasn't very plug-and-play originally. It's had an SLI profile for a very long time and even Crossfire has worked with ED for years.

Yeah. SLI and Crossfire always worked in Elite. Not always very well, but it worked.

It might have been a driver update, rather than something Frontier did.

The 'worked, just not very well' sent me off to get a high end single card. V.expensive, but it removed stutter and strobing around planets and transformed stations back into truly beautiful moving works of art. Still no buyers remorse!

Yeah I still think a single card is always best, it's just nice to find it actually works better than I expected!

I have reverted to running on just a single gpu, as one 1080ti is more than enough for Elite, it was just an interesting experiment to see how well 2 would work.
