Stupid me, I imagined a separate team of nav. beacon layers...

NAV beacons aren't what the FSD locks onto, it locks onto the stars themselves.
Thank you Valethar, so roughly 9000 * 4 hours (appx.), working 8 hour days is just a touch under 12 years.

Oh, and the occasional misfortune of jumping into a system and coming out between a pair of close orbiting neutron stars. That can really ruin your day.
This has been talked about before, The nav beacons give the coordinates of the system's stations. Any system with a station will have a beacon, and you will never need to use a discovery scanner to find a station.
That makes perfect sense since how would you get to a system for the first time to set up a nav beacon.
That being said, you should be able to hyper jump to any star in a system. Currently you can only hyper jump to the primary star that has a nav beacon and then have to resort to SC for secondary, tertiary stars etc..
It would make it easier if you could choose the star, esp if there are no technical reasons not to do so. If the nav beacons have zero to do with jump markers, then let's allow jumping to any star in a system. It would save a bunch of time to get to some stations like the Hutton Orbital which is .22 LY from the nav point and takes 40 min in SC to get there so I hear.
