so, will CQC targetting make it into the 'real' game?

Just read the blog and the idea of breaking a target lock using line of sight sounds good for the main game. Asteroid fields would be an ideal example and.ambushes would be great.

Will it happen though?

Thought the same thing when I read it...hope so! :)

They said it's strictly CQC only. So unless Mike approves - no.

Shame. It would open out a lot of possibilities in RES and asteroid fields, and just by flying close to other, bigger ships. That T9 would be a handy smuggling shield as you shadow it into a.station.......

This was suggested and had a lot of support during alpha and beta, as people assumed it would have added more tactical gameplay to dogfighting in asteroid fields. It never got implemented of course, but I'm glad to see the idea wasn't abandoned. If it works out well in CQC maybe it'll be trialed in the full game.

Maybe somewhere in the middle?

If you are hot then your pursuer will not lose lock unless:

- You dart behind an asteroid
- You engage silent running and leave line of sight
- Their sensors are damaged (not destroyed) causing random lock outages
- You ded

Not sure that this would work in the main game. Most battles take place in open space without places to hide and even in asteroid fields it wouldn't be that useful given the relatively slow speeds we're travelling at.

Im pretty sure in asteroid fields I have lost target lock behind larger asteroids .... Been a while since I have gone Res hunting though. Also when they say line of sight - I assume it means something in between you and the target - would be annoying if every time a ship gets behind you you have to reacquire

I imagine it would be.like mass.locking in that if a Sidewinder hid behind another Sidey nothing would be blocked. If a Sidey hid behind an Anaconda then the emitter would be blocked.

It would be a useful trick for smuggling, and be useful in SC. For example, trying to outrun an assassin you could keep a planet between you and the other ship and stay in the planet's radar shadow. The assassin might be clever and look in those shadows too.
