General / Off-Topic So, Windows 10 yes or nah?

I know this has been posted somewhere before but I couldn't find it via the search function.

So, has anyone experience with win 10? Does it work well with Elite and other games?

Additionally, would you recommend it for someone like me who enjoys customizing the OS (for example a custom design, self-made functions added, etc.)?

Thanks :)

Works fine. Reliable.

Only issue I've had is a blue sad-face-of-death a few times. Definitely an improvement over Win8, though.

It's time - bite the bullet and get on the Win10 train. It's fine. If you have some older apps like an old scanner or something then you might have to reinstall and get drivers but really, it runs Elite just fine and personally I think the adjustment from Win7 is minor. There is heaps of knowledge on the internet now as well so you can find the answer to pretty much any question if you do run into trouble.

As always, backup first.

Go on - live dangerously - you can do it!

Works alright here. Had a BSOD issues but I had them with Win 8 as well. Win 10 is a very nice refinement on Win8.

I adopted Windows 10 on my main PC during the beta phase. Upgraded all of the rest of the PCs in the house when it was offered. No particular problems. Works fine with E: D.

I have Elite on my laptop which came with Windows 10 installed, I've had no issues with it so far, the only game I cannot get working is Fallout 3, incompatible something something blah blah.

from my machines ad those of the people i'm living with ... yes, if your pc/laptop is up to date. no, if you have older equipment. to much hassle with drivers. exampel: i had to disable the graphic card driver update on my travel laptop, because win 10 declares an old driver the new driver (something wrong with the data base... and as far as i have googled not even a windows problem, but the problem of the graphic card manufacturer), because only the new driver, which win10 declares a driver not-up-todate, can run horizons.

I up upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 yesterday.

No major problems.

Little things like needing new Network card and video card drivers. But that was it. Elite worked fine. I reinstalled the launcher, just to be sure, but the game itself just worked fine.

Do it soon, so it's free.

My opinion:
If You have W8, then yes W10 are an improvement.
If You have W7, stick with them like glue, until You'll need to play something DX12-only. W7 are the ultimate gaming system, uses far less system resources than any other, and are simple to maintain.

W10 are okay-ish, but if You want your privacy and disable all targeted services, cloud computing and precognitive search (the "spying stuff," like people say) it becomes sluggish and you'll find out that it really is just a fancy W8.1

Running Win 10 on two desktops and two laptops. No issues. In fact, it cleared up a few issues I had with one of the desktops and the USB Mouse going laggy.

Have upgraded to win10 a month ago. So far my PC overally works even better than with win7. Didnt notice any difference while playing Elite. Everything works fine, without any problems.

Had one major problem though, with memory leakage. After upgrade, check your PC performance, i was surprised how many people had this issue while i was googling for solution.

And dont forget to update your drivers.

Change the compatibility of the exe to win 7 ;)

I went to W10 both on an W8.1 desktop and a W7 laptop.
Both machines run better on the new OS, and none of my applications or hardware have failed, even those that are more than 10 years old.

If you go that way, disable everything you can from the privacy options (easiest during installation).

Actually, it's been demonstrated on several benchmarking sites that gaming performance is almost identical between W7 and W8, with W8 faster in many other day-to-day aspects. W8 gets a bad rep simply because it became fashionable to bash it and people don't realise you can default to a desktop mode almost identical to W7 (especially if you install a start menu like classicshell).

With regard to Win 10. I have been running on my laptop for nearly a year and have recently installed my gaming PC. No issues so far, but there seems to be little advantage over W8. However, it's worth installing while still free, because directx12 will become more common over the next year or so and promises significant performance gain in games that utilise it. Oh, and it's always worth doing a clean install.

I did the upgrade and while it generally seemed OK, I was getting occasional lockups or freezing. I blitzed the hard drive and installed a "clean" build by USB using the Win10 Media Creation Tool. No problems at all after that

Until I came to install Quantum Break.
I've got a bunch of the telemetry services disabled so Windows Store won't download programs. In the end it meant having to reinstall Win10 again. Thankfully the process was relatively painless and I was back to where I was previously in about an hour. Windows Store worked and Quantum Break downloaded. That's the only problem I've had with Win10.

No problem with Windows 10. Running with it since nov 2015.

Yes, but you need to disable updates, I've disabled them week after getting windows ( I was waiting for people to find way to turn it off )
Outside them it's worth having.
