So with the Ascendancy update being delayed ... can someone explain why the Type 8 being available for everyone to buy in-game is also delayed?

Maybe it's obvious, maybe it's not and maybe only Frontier can answer, I don't know.

As far as I can tell, the Type 8 isn't part of the Ascendancy update. It's already in the game as those who purchase it via the ARX store can get it in-game. But everyone else is still waiting. I do understand the update has been delayed due to balancing and a crash issue, and the Mandalay being available in the ARX store is tied to this, but there's no mention of the Type-8 which was scheduled to be made available on the 22nd of October (ie the day I am typing this).

Does anyone (outside of Frontier) know why the Type 8 is delayed?

My guess is that many have confused the date of the Ascendancy update with the T-8 becoming available for credits.. :)

AFAIK, it will become available for credits on the 7:th of November, that is 3 months after it became available as a preview for ARX.

Yeah, I think a lot of people assumed Ascendency meant Type-8 for credits, when there's no such implication. The Type-8 for ARX and Python Mk.II for credits just happened to be the same day, three months after the Python Mk.II released for ARX. They're releasing the Mandalay for ARX sooner after the Type-8 than the Type-8 was after the Python Mk.II. I think part of the early access ARX deal is three months exclusivity, not "until the next patch". I'd expect to see Type-8 for credits somewhere around November 7th, and that timeline is irrelevant to the Mandalay.

Whether the Mandalay for ARX delay also pushes the Mandalay for credits back by a week accordingly we've yet to see, but I would also expect Ship 4 for ARX to come earlier than Mandalay for credits if they want to get out before the end of the year.

Perhaps, as FD announced at least 4 new ships this year, the paid release of them will be as indicated, but the credits release remaining on the rolling schedule of 3 months?
I don't recall it being mentioned that the T-8 would become avaialble for credits in-game when the Mandaly released, I think that is purely player speculation.

I think it was players, like myself, jumping to the conclusion that because the PII became generally available at the same time as the T8 went on early access the same was happening with the T8 and Mandalay missing or ignoring that the Mandalay was due to early access less sooner than the T8 had.

This is fair, and it could be player speculation. Honestly, I'm not a fan of this whole early-access-for-ARX thing and am fed up of waiting

It's only another 16 days...
Then another 3 months for the Mandy, and, if they manage to meet the "at least 4 ships this year" statement, only 3 months for those.

It's perfectly fair, those of us happy to bung a tenner into FDs slush fund get them on release, but nobody is forced to do so, as a little wait and they can be bought for credits.
