So with the new mining mechanics for 1.3...

You could always mine undiscovered systems (after discovering the mineable stuff yourself, of course)...just a matter of getting that ore back to a station.

Yeah, when mining became a thing, I thought the only way to make a lucrative mining expedition was to get into pristine rings that only exist in unexplored space (since everything with humans already would be depleted or on its way).

Found a few good spots some light years from the edge of populated space, then I realized that pristine rings exist in populated space too...with stations right NEXT TO THEM!

Boy did I feel dumb :D
 
I don't even think the mechanics have really changed? The jury is out for me but I'd like to think I can take an asp or clipper out into a field at some point to make some money that's not trading or killing the same things over and over.
 
I sure hope that diamondback is a good mining platform. My hauler that I use now is not going to cut it.
