So you believe this is boring?

Welcome Commander, welcome to the world of the Elite Force.

Some people has gained access to the Beta or was in on the PB as I was. Some people find this space Sim boring. If so, let me try to help you open your mind.

Imagine this: You're a 5 year old toddler, your Mom just placed you in the nice sandbox daddy made for you, sweating and swearing while he was smashing his fingers assembling the very complicated sandbox he bought at B&Q.

All that sand....Mom pass by and give you two sticks, "Here you go love, play with that" (Alpha) You imaging there are giant space crafts fighting in space and the sandbox start to take a new form.

Daddy arrives, from the hospital where he got a nice new bandage on his fingers, "ahhh that's nice Freddy, you're already playing, look I got this shiny new tractor for you to play with." In your mind the corporation just handed over a new mining equipment and you needed that to excavate that preseasons metal on the moon where you have started an outpost.

Mom arrives, grab you, take your new toys, and clean the sandbox, "You can play tomorrow love, now it's tea time"

My point, you're what you make of it, you're given "toys" not directions, and you're testing the "sandbox" expect "tea time" anytime until gamma.

So what can we expect when it's done? well only DB and team knows that a 100%, however I got a pretty good idea, I could be wrong though.

OMG it all looks the same? well as far as I know, for the moment we are only testing if the box can keep the sand inside, not what kind of sand we got.

PG is, if done right wonderful, and you know what? it's how this very universe was made, combined with all the other stuff that influence the universe like gravity. When we get access to planets and wildlife, I imagine, clever as the Devs are, they would make the life form according to many factors, like gravity, atmosphere and so on. That alone will make a variety.

Maths is beautiful

Fractals generation.

Furthermore, The Outsider must have some impact on this space sim, if not it's a bloody shame, however I am strong in my gut feeling about this one.

What we know so far....

The sandbox should be the superior way to engage your inner energies. Having one of those trains moving in an eternal circle, is not quite doing the trick. Although I for one love trains. When they dragged me away as a kid to have a look at the "development level", they used a sandbox. Narrow corridors tend to not stimulate, even though they are easier to simulate. You have to open your mind, embrace the universe.

Great, now I sound like a Hippie. Sorry. :D

A man comes to the end of his journey after travelling through the sandbox of his life. He looks back at the tracks he has made and noticed there is another set of tracks beside his. David arrives at his side and says "Those were my footsteps, beside you all the way."
The man looks again and says "At several parts of my journey, when I was struggling, there are only one set of footprints. Why did you desert me at those times when I needed you?"
The David replied, "My son, those were the times I carried you."

In the Dharma.

Man that was DEEP and on a SUNDAY!! thanks for sharing I loved it.

This may be an infinite sandbox with infinite borders (billion systems) but there is no tractor and sticks.

Supercruise Alt tab trade simulator

Shooting NPC's that either overwhelm you or you own them.

So.... the way you write it i'd have to roleplay some crazy story to really get deep. Even EVE online needs tons of content to make the sandbox runnable (scanning, probing, mining, combat sites, corps, alliances...) you cant just throw twitch controls into a sandbox and say gg. Right now it's more or less the depth of War thunder simulator battles , but offlin

Agree to some extent but the way I understand it there is much more to come. The sandbox will get upgrades and will make little billy smile.

The claims are not entirely unfounded.

The game is currently not only a bit slim in terms of content and "things to do", but there's also no real challenge, no emergent pvp, and no incentive for people to co-operate and fly in groups.

It feels boring because there is no threat - player pirates can't intercept you during travel, and you can easily run from every encounter anyway. You may as well sell your weapons and just enjoy the longer hyperspace jump range it gives you.

The thing to realise here is that the game is not yet working as intended.

Once the issue of too easy escape is fixed and player interdictions are added, I can predict that in one swift stroke the game will start making a whole lot more sense.

Weapons will start to matter again, choice of safe vs dangerous routes will start mattering, teaming up with others and flying in wings will start to matter.

Yep. This. For me the major changes to come are:

Player interdictions, the ability to follow others through super-cruise and hyperspace, NPCs existent in super-cruise and something being done to prevent boosting away from every PC/NPC interdiction, I think we've got the basis of an absolutely excellent game.

One of the keys to a sandbox is imagination, you either have it or you dont.

Give a child a model train & that's all they have. It might be the finest model train in the world, but it's still just a model train.
Give a child a large cardboard box & it is anything they wish - a fire engine, a spaceship, a tank.
Imagination is the key. It has no limits.

I like this post .. explains why so many gifts to my nephew in the past were left to one side whilst they "explored" the possibilities of the box it came in.

Nice one.

Unless a game is exceptional, I can get bored of them pretty quickly. But I could never see myself getting bored of ED. Even without any action it's great simply driving around in your pimp wagon.

I find this game boring now because I discovered it's not completely online. Feelings towards this game completely destroyed.
