I agree with all of your post Roger. It does seem a little disjointed when you also consider how hard nosed other elements of the game are...for example the well known classic case of getting drunk, spend all your credits at a casino and pass out drunk at the wheel of your brand new shiny Conda and crash it into the side of a station... No insurance cash? Tough baps, you're back to the sidewinder mate!

I'd rather have it so that if you start on an NPC with a Dangerous or above combat rating, you know you'll get a proper fight.

I think the NPC's are scaled with your ship type, and perhaps with reputation/rankings as well.

This might be a great time to downshift back to my Adder...
