Hi All,
Here's a "what if" mechanic I've had on my mind: If/when there are bars and other gathering places introduced into the game, wouldn't it be cool if your actions in the bar sould affect your reputation?
Here's an example. You've met a contact in a bar, someone new to you. They offer you a very profitable contract to carry slaves to another port. If you accept, you get more standing with them. So far, so standard.
But what if you could punch them? really get their hackles up? Maybe if you do that to someone high up enough in the faction, there's a chance some people will be waiting to rough you up when you return to your ship?
Or, maybe that person was undesirable to someone, and they approach you with a more lucrative offer (as thanks for punching that person).
I reckon that would be really cool. Then, as your standing with different factions builds, a profile develops.
Another mechanic I thought would be cool is that depending on what bars you visit, and in what faction/economic areas, you might be more or less welcome. If another commander comes into the bar, he can ask the bartender about the people there, and if you have a high enough status (negative or positive) with the bar's faction, he/she would tell the commander things like "That guy's trouble, steer clear", or "She's trustworthy, really gets things done".
From there, you can decide whether you could build a business relationship with that person. You could even stitch them up if they're a different faction, like offer them a cargo of rares for transport, but load them up with slaves instead, so they get nabbed.
Kinda reminds me of the Shindig episode from Firefly
Thanks for your time.
