Sol : Asteroid clusters, Deimos, Phobos and everything else that is missing

Was there a technical fdev explanation or in-game lore explanation for missing content from Sol.

could they not get the quality up to standard (in-game assets were obviously nothing like real-life bodies / didn't have the data to faithfully recreate them.
Or was it a stellar forge explanation?

I believe there are some lore explanations for most of it... as in mined to build up the stations, various things like that. I don't know enough to explain it all here though, perhaps its accessible somewhere.

About daimos and phobos: as far as I know they will in some time fall onto Mars so it is possible that in 3304 they do no longer exist anymore.

Certainly true for Phobos.... eventually. Given the speed if planetary movements, it's probably doubtful that this will happen in the next 1000 years. There's probably the same chance that Betegeuse will have died, or Mercury having being pushed out of orbit.

Although you may have a point in that to terraform Mars, Deimos and Phobos could somehow have been deliberately deorbited to crash into Mars (or at least parts of them) to raise its temperature to kickstart terraforming. This would be an extreme way of doing it, but if a corporation was coming up to a deadline close to a profit announcement- well its not like anyone would be living there.

I was thinking about Raxxla, a rock maybe and unremarkable moon but also a portal to another realm.
In early Astronomy because of it's spongey porous nature, it was speculated that Phobos was hollow. Those crazy Boffin's claimed in the 50's and 60's that Phobos was an alien asteroid base.
But in Elite Universe, what if it was not just an asteroid base, but a jump-gate, to witch-space, built into the asteroid-like moon, which then after some experimenting and reverse engineering by the federation as they developed the FTL drivers, hit a glitch and it teleported itself away (like the Philadelphia-experimented)

Phobos (if it is indeed Raxxla) could now be hiding in one of the games many asteroid clusters.
It would go to lengths, as to explain why no one has found it.
Explorers didn't care about scanning asteroid clusters as that required some time-consuming precision flying around stars far far away....prior to the FSS.
And even if scanned with the FSS, would it even register as anything else but an asteroid cluster?
It means we would then have to check out each asteroid cluster in person, and visually have to check out the asteroids to make sure they aren't one of Mar's missing moons.....you know for those that have eyes to see.....
and the only ones who are willing to physically inspect every rock are the miners and they prefer mining the rings of planets, not some a couple of Asteroids cluster each with 3-4 'roids in them 333,000 ls away.

So please someone sink a hole in this idea, as this could get painful very quickly.

Deimos and Phobos are too small or too large to be represented at the moment.

Deimos is 6.2km average radius, but the smallest an Elite Dangerous planet can be is 130km radius - and things like orbital cruise or even landing would work very oddly on a planet that small or low-gravity.

On the other hand, a non-planetary object 13km long is far larger than anything represented as a single non-planetary object and there would be big difficulties with modelling and texturing an object that large, or having it sensibly appear on the ship's scanner.

But then you have the asteroid bases and large base structures, which are more than a kilometre or 2 in length. It doesn't need to be the whole thing, just the jump-gate structure.....
