I am in Sol for the first time having recently gained the permit. It is saying that I have mapped the planets (including Earth) when I have never been here before?????

Also while I am here where should I go? I notice that one moon has a red circle around it rather than the blue ones around the other moons.

Well yeah, these planets were all mapped a long, long time ago, and the data's going to be baked in to most navigation systems.

Many systems are "known". They have so much data on them they don't need anymore. Sol is one of them, you'll encounter more eventually.

The one with the red circle is permit locked. Presumably for future content.

If you want to see some impressive canyons and race through them go to Ariel (a moon of Uranus). Or visit the Voyager probes (use FSS for directions).

The three Superpower capital systems (Sol, Achenar, Alioth) are all permit-locked, and are all unable to be mapped.

That red circle means you can't land on it as it has a stargate to Raxxla and a free Anaconda with a hold full of LTDs.
