Sol the Great disappointment

I'm a beta backer and during all the testing we were told that SOL was going to be a jewel, something great and that's why they were keeping SOL out of the testing phases. I just went there today and it's just the same thing just much more stations but all the same, SOL has nothing to differentiate it from the other system other than I actually know the names of the planets, serious disapointment, I'll continue playing Elite cause is a pretty good game but won't be buying expansions, I'm sure FD is saving some of the great stuff on SOL for an expansion and that's just a plain lie.

FD lost a customer (except if they come up with a new roller coaster tycoon game :D)

What did you expect to be different? It is just 1 of biilion's of systems. Sol has a Capship in obrit around Earth, and quite a few good trade routes are available.I made my first millions trading Superconductors out of SOL, the system has an insane amount of stock at low prices.

I dunno. I thought terraformed Mars was a nice surprise, and I loved it's station. Only one in that style I've seen.

It was also very cool to drop out of supercruise and literally say out loud: "Wow, that's Australia!"

I did feel Jupiter and Saturn were a bit lackluster, but that might have been because I've seen tons of Gas Giants and Ringed Gas Giants on my way to Sol.

I visited in Late Beta, so I was also a bit disappointed at the lack of stuff to buy at Earth. Figured they'd pretty much have everything.

So....since it's launch, and I have a Cobra that needs upgrades....think it's time for another long trip back 'home'!

What were you expecting to find in the Solar System other than the planets that are in the Solar system? This doesn't seem like a good reason to cut off your nose to spite your face. The expansions have to potential to add a massive amount of game-play to the game.

The only planets finished are earth and mars, the rest are still a work in progress. Or so I read anyway.

As long as Earth looks like Earth, I don't really care to be honest. I didn't like that it had become some strange beige sand world in First Encounters!

Think I'll go and take a look. Without really thinking too hard I typed "Mars", despite always having put in star names before (like I said I wasn't thinking). Took me there, didn't know it worked with planet names. Nice.

Saw a bunch of Youtube videos of people madly rushing to get to SOL. I couldn't care less about SOL. I've been living there for my whole life in RL, I want to visit the rest of 3999999999 stars.
...Maybe Canis Majoris? Mu Cephei? PZ Cassiopeiae? Theta Muscae? Wolf 359?
So many choices... and people go to the only thing the've seen already. Humph.

when I started game one of my plans was to basically not get close to sol.

why? because I already know sol I live there. So now I am in a location that isn't on the 2D map location and I have seen stations types that are not on the wiki :)

Not sure what you expected to be different as ours is a solar system just like millions of others out there. All the planet textures were handcrafted and extra care was taken with sculpting Earth and Mars.

One thing I don't like about Sol.. is that from Earth, one can't really see the Moon.. :/ That was a disappointment.

I went to this system that has a shipyard in it according to it's description, a shipyard it did not have in it.

Dunno what you expected?

Our solar system is no different to any other.. we are just in a random part of the galaxy on a random planet. I don't know what you expected.
There's not going to be magical unicorns or santa flying across the solar system.

I also will never buy anything from FD, but I think expansions were promised to beta backers for free?

That depends on how much you pledged; can't remember what it was but I think it might have been £50.

Really? That is very disappointing given the expectations of proper distances being simulated. It was the same in Frontier - the moon was far too small from Earth.

Were you expecting something like this at every station?

Well, most of us haven't had a proper close look at Saturn, Mars, Neptune, Venus etc etc...

The distances and sizes are actually all correct. The moon is how it would look.

It probably looks small because your seeing it from a different perspective and your brain makes it seem bigger than it is. Take a photo of the moon (without being zoomed in) and then look how tiny it seems on the picture :)

why did you feel the need to tell us that you were disappointed? I don't care, I am sure the other forum users don't care, if you have a problem tell it direct to FD via the support network.

I am not sure what you were expecting to happen when you went there? maybe your imagination got carried away
