Sol

hi all

just a quick question if anyone has been or is currently "living" here :D is it worth moving to Sol? or is it just worth visiting?

Thanks in advance

I got the permit earlier today, I went to Earth and landed at my buddy Mikhail's station. All I can say is: FRAME RATE HELL! The stations look super cool inside but my GPU didn't enjoy it.

I'm "living" in Sol. I guess it's a psychological centering thing with me. I can't really feel as good about any other planet than Earth (even though Mars is supposed to be the new Earth). It's good as a base. High tech for equipment upgrades and ship purchases are within a jump or two, and plenty of money to be made. I imagine it's best described as average compared to anywhere else in Fed space.

If it does mean anything to you travelling all along the Sol system visiting the plantes and moons and then land behind the moon on Galileo, you should take a chance :)
Without any extra emotional value it's just another system - but beautiful starports!

Was eager to get there. Navigation is easy because you "know" the planets. I thinks gallileo and one other orbis station is great to visit. they have parks with trees in the docking bay an palm-trees on your pad. like landing the viper in miami :)

outfitting in system is lame (my outfitter is in kruger 60 nearby) and the nav point provides not too much bounty, maybe because of high security. good trades to sol are not often available. most times i used daedalus to become allied.

Nice place, but not perfect to earn money.

I was just happy I could see the Earth from the moon even with the lowest graphics settings. Another factor is that when I have family and friends over, they want to see something familiar. I have an A fitted sidewinder for them to go check out the rings of Saturn or the voyager probe.

I did a fly by of Earth the other day but it was night in the Northern hemisphere so I couldn't see my house :(

So, are the Sol stations like the one at Delta Phoenicis - Trading Post, they really are a much happier place to dock !

M. Gorbachev and Mars High have palm trees, I'm sure. Abe Lincoln is depressingly dark. Li Qing Jao is standard fare. I think Daedalus is probably the most useful station in the system. That said, if you go far from your home IRL, on the return journey, you'll notice that your stomping ground is just another exit off the freeway. Same applies for Sol.

It's a shame that you have to earn a permit to Sol. I had expected Sol to offer something different to the traveler, other than it being the cradle of "humanity". IMO, the system is pretty lacklustre and not worth the effort. There far more lucrative and exciting places to visit than Sol.

Having said that I, sometimes, yearn to be back "home" having traveled thousands of light years.

I like it, stations are nice, as per the posts above, they sell decent kit and there's one or two surprises in the system. I'm busy gathering my ships in M Gorbachev station.

I had posted this question elsewhere but it seems to have vanished (I've only just registered so maybe that has a bearing on it).

Does Saturn have its hexagonal vortex replicated, as if it does I bet it is worth visiting to see it?

EDIT: I just found my original post, so apologies for double posting. I'd been doing something else on my PC and when I refreshed the screen the threads looked to be the same. I hadn't realised that so many people had been busy on the forum, so my original post had dropped WAY down the list.
Note to self: spend longer checking and less time head scratching before making the same mistake...

Maybe there are big plans to come?

We have federation, empire and alliance struggling with succession or stupid drugs, both past their glorious days and facing depression (i'm making this up).

This is the absolute logical point (in stories) for an external threat to pop up and force the enemies to unite, but not without playing their schemes further.

so my question would be: if the alien race stands at the gates to SOL and it's "let the empire help us (me=fed) defend it or face destruction", what will the players do?

plan me in for defense force...

Totally agreed. I'd hoped that the capitol of the Federation, no less than the birthplace of all humanity, would at least be a high tech hub for everything, especially with the permit requirement. Any system requiring a permit should really be worth the effort, and Sol just ain't. Glad I have the permit for being in beta, otherwise I'd be miffed after working for it only to discover nothing special, really.

with the permit to Sol i was only a cadet and i got it, thought you would have had to been a lot higher ranked to get it, but saying that since patch 1.06 yesterday i've gotten 2 other permits as well near Sol.

thanks to everyone who have replied it may be best to stick to where i am currently (make some more credits) and see where i go from there as i always thought Sol would have been the "best" place to be but from the posts above it doesn't seem to be the case, but hey i'll still make the effort to go and visit.

Saturn's hexagonal vortex is not readily apparent. Not sure if it would be by the naked eye since NASA didn't make clear what type of imagery tech they used. Regardless, it IS visible in SpaceEngine.

Thanks, Riff Rider. I haven't used SpaceEngine for months so when I get tired of ED I shall have to take a gander. Off topic, the thing about SE which I miss in ED is being able to record videos (my current graphics card is pre-ShadowPlay).
