How do I get access to Sol?

Access to Sol is restricted, and requires a permit that can only be obtained by achieving the Federal Navy rank of Petty Officer.

So in essence, you need to rank up within the Federal Navy, which you can do by running missions for high-rep with Federation factions. For example, I grinded out Federation rank by doing trade missions between Ceos and Sothis. Note that the rank requirement for getting the Sol permit is rather modest (4th rank) in comparison to that for being able to buy the Federal Corvette (Rear Admiral, rank 12).

When you do get access be aware that besides the planets with atmospheres like Earth and Mars we also cannot land on The Moon or Triton. However it is possible to fly right outside the system and visit deep space probes launched way back in the 20th and 21st centuries.

An FSS scan will show the Voyagers and New Horizons, the Pluto Probe.
