You better brush up on your solar weather, commander. That is most certainly a form of coronal loop.
I always aim to go under these when I see them, even when I'm not fuel scooping.
If the radiation effected the HUD, the Commander would be in some serious trouble. If you stop by a star, you can hear the sound the radiation causes.
Now that I'd like to see for myself.
You sure? back then all I had was the Cobra and barely enough to cover insurance!
I didn't have video recording capabilities at the time but all the swirls and spirals have a flowing effect like a river of fire fantastic to see, however the ship was at 79% just flying along so trying to SC pushed it over 140%

I wasn't thinking of radiation but more of electromagnetic charges that even screws up electrics down on earth.
Gamma radiation is electromagnetic, ditto X ray and UV - all of which are likely to be pouring out, affecting the hud and pilot - which is why ships are probably heavily shielded against them by default, as there's plenty of bad stuff ejected into star systems at random all the time which the ships would have to be protected against.
Having been to 3500 worlds this was my first opportunity.
