That alternative FDL looks, imho, even better than the one that was realized. But I am not complaining, I love the FDL the way it is! 
And, through that blog I ended up at another blog, which led me to this piece of concept art I don't think we have seen yet:
What has been seen, cannot be unseen. So hereby my first wish for 1.4 is that large beam lasers fire a set of quad beams.

As is often the case, so many concepts look better than what ends up in the game. Equally, so many cool concepts don't even end up in the game at all.
Ah well, great looking concepts. I like the look of that mining laser effect and the solar forge looks interesting as well.
I checked on the website and I also quite like the look of the first cockpit concept he drew for Elite, while it doesn't suit the smaller ships I think it would make a great captains chair in something larger like an Anaconda.
Something like that in a larger ship would be pretty neat. Maybe when we get to have other players on our ship and the commander wouldn't need to be sitting in the pilots seat anymore since he could sit in some kind of command seat like that instead.
