Solar Panels -- Incorrectly Flagged As Inaccessible

I'm building a zoo which is split in two parts by a wide river. The second part across the river has 5 solar panels and all five are flagged incorrectly in red as "Power source is inaccessible".
  • zoo's second part has its own workforce including two mechanics
  • solar panels have connected staff paths leading to the proper maintenance spot
  • call a mechanic to a solar panel and he will reach it no problem, but not actually do any work
  • the two halves of the zoo are two different work zones, but I've checked and double-checked that the solar panels and the mechanics are all assigned to the correct work zone.
  • the mechanics do work on other things in that work zone, they only ignore the solar panels
I've tried deleting and rebuilding the paths, and deleting the solar panels and replacing them entirely, but no change. Tried adding a new mechanic, no change.

Do power sources HAVE to be connected to a path network which is ultimately connected to the zoo entrance? Even if they have other perfectly valid connections? I could just replace the solar panels when they wear out, but I dislike having to ignore red notifications. I'll probably miss a real one.

Suggestions?

Yes. All paths have to be connected, in some way, to the zoo entrance, otherwise they won't be seen as paths. I don't know why your mechanics do repair other stuff and not the solar panels, though, but I did have the same issue with a building that I placed but I forgot to connect it to the entrance and kept getting 'vendor can't reach X shop' or something.

Thanks Adarra, but not quite my experience. In the second half of my zoo, all other pathing works just fine without being connected to the zoo entrance. I've got vendors, washrooms, habitats, various staff facilities and a transport ride and they all work no problem. It's only power sources that are a problem (haven't tried a water purifier yet).

As a test I built a long convoluted staff path that nobody should ever use (due to work zone assignments) which connected to a path over on the other side of the river and suddenly the solar panels are now A-OK. Grrrr. Looks like I'll have to build some dumb connection hidden in an out-of-the-way location to get around this bug. I think there's a l-o-n-g tunnel in my future.
