Solo, grouped or in Open?

Hi,

After much exploring last night and the excitement of thinking I might be the first to do a full scan on a couple of star's some 500K LS ( in a system and it took some time ) out. I sold my data to find that it did not say I was the first to discover. This was only really clear once i'd sold the data. In addition, thanks to a visit to the local brewery, some time earlier I had no idea what the system name was as it was one of many.

I was in a group but not in open play. Does this mean that you have to be in Open play to get the "first discovered tag"?

Thanks in advance to any replies.

It shouldn't matter if you are Open och Solo. Was it close to Civ-space? Did you do the scan and returned the same night? Did someone sell it before you could (only the first to sell the information gets the First Discoverd tag? Did you double honk and check the System map again, sometime it takes some time for the client to get the server information and sometimes you have to double honk to be sure you get all the information, especially if you are starting the honk directly entering the system.

It is quite frustrating to think I'm scanning all these systems where I think no one else has seen it before, but there is a chance they have, but just not sold it yet. I guess that is particularly true if you are in the "near" area around one of the interesting phenomena (e.g. nebulae). I rarely scan anything that's already been tagged.

If you look in System Map and select object it will show you if it's already been discovered.

However, if between you scanning it and getting home to sell data someone sells the data on that system, irrespective of if they scanned it before or after you scanned it - they will get first discovery bonus.

The bonus is purely for the first person to get back and sell it - not to have scanned it first.
