Hi everyone,
* If you can clear the Banshees and other enemy on foot before starting Orthrus runs, do that first *
Use your ship to do missile runs to take out the weaker enemies and to do some damage to the Banshees. If you want to take out the Banshees in your ship with missiles, it works, it's just a pain. Much easier on foot. Use plasma weapons for Banshees. Run underneath the front portion of the Banshee and target the three half sphere objects. They go down with about 20 shots. Stay underneath the front portion at all times. Constantly move to say underneath.
If you're looking for something fun to do that can earn you quite a few credits, solo Orthrus farming at the spire sites is pretty engaging. This isn't a skill thing. It's fairly easy once you get the hang of the timing for the Shutdown Field Neutralizer. Of course there are times where the Banshee shutdown missiles can nail you. You can recover from these and still get the kill.
We were playing in Open and didn't see anyone for hours, so we gave the solo option a try. The AX PGs are the way to go for big groups and fast kills of course. The work the AX players have done on the AX Discord is pretty amazing. Plus all the detailed updates on systems, tissues, spires and everything else concerning Thargoids is extremely well done.

I used a Cutter with 3 pre-engineered missile racks and 3 pre-engineered AX Multis. You can get a kill with about 25 shots if you do it right and don't waste missiles, which translates to 7 kills per session. You can do almost 3 full runs. It takes 10 mins to get restocked at the FC, so you have 30 minutes to kill. At about 1 per 2 minutes, you can take down about 7. On average, I can clear 600 mil to 700 mil per hour. You'll make much more in a group with how quickly they go down with multiple commanders. This is more for fun and to try something different.
Some things I learned after a few failures.
1. Stay near the back of the tallest spire. You'll avoid quite a few Banshee shutdown missiles. This suggestion came from one of the YouTube videos I watched.
2. Wait for spawns in the sky near you, or from the back or two side portals as they are coming out of the spire.
3. Ignore the Banshee shutdown missiles. Make sure to get the Orthrus shutdown neutralized and you'll be fine. I only noticed one Orthrus shutdown attempt per kill.
4. Once in a while the Orthrus sends out the shutdown field instantly. Very tough to avoid. If that happens, let the Orthrus fly away, reset and try again.
5. If you have a friend, family member or another player that can join you're crew, you can get the extra pip. It's not needed, but every little bit helps to keep your neutralizer going longer. Plus they'll get about 75% of the bond or 30 mil per kill. Great for new players or those that don't have the credits/mats to make the build.
6. If you stay about 11km away, the shutdown missiles seem to stop. If you stay near the ground, most hit the spire structures before reaching you.
7. You can do this with a Chieftan just as easily. I'm sure other ships would work too. I wanted the 6th rack to make the kill quicker to decrease the chance of escape.
8. It's a power hog. Just shutdown your AFMU and Frameshift Drive once you get there and you should be set.
Nothing major and not hard to do once you get the hang of it.
