Hello all,
I recently purchased the Vive audio head strap primarily for improved comfort where in past I used original strap with a G633 headset. When I attempted to use the Vive mic with new Vive audio head unit, I could not successfully train, via Windows Speech Recognition (WSR), the mic to work with VoiceAttack. Google searches noted people added an audio pop muffler (cut sock or similar material) and taped it over mic hole and plastic gap around nose piece. I did this on my unit using electrical tape and a microfiber cloth. This worked to improve mic quality, but did not solve the problem.
The key to solving the problem was to create a new unique WSR profile for the Vive mic. I also created a new unique profile for my G633 headset, and trained both individually via the WSR training exercise. Note, when training Vive mic, i set the training window inside an OVRDrop panel to be able to read/train while wearing the headset. Once I had the two profiles trained/available, I downloaded/installed this excellent WA vap (Exergist/VA.Change-WSR-Profile) which allows for switching of the WSR profile from within VA. The developer also has excellent documentation on the dilemma, solution, installation and use of the vap.
With Exergist/VA.Change-WSR-Profile, i imported its commands into my ED profile and configured the switch to occur simply when loading up the profile and it worked flawlessly! I also set my other non Vive VA profiles (such as for NMS), to load my G633 WSR profile on WA vap startup. In essence, when I choose one of my VA vaps for VR or non-vr games, WSR is automatically switched to set the correct microphone WSR profile.
This was a lifesaver as I did not want to try and set up an alternative mic or hang my g633 around my neck while using the Vive and audio strap.
All in all, hopefully this helps others who may have similar issue and/or when other google searches on topic arise, this thread may be found.
