Some alpha thoughts on the awesome that is ED :)

I thought I'd post this in the general forum....I enjoy text write ups so I thought others might.

I've been playing since a few weeks after alpha 1.0 launched.
But for whatever reason, no matter what I did, I could never see other players. Not once ever. Haven't been particularly bothered by that since I'm not an MMO guy.
Until Alpha 3.1 that is.

While 3.0 was completely broken, 3.1 is not only more stable (for me at least) but now there are other players flying around everywhere.

And last night I finally got to see why an online multi-player Elite could be amazing.

I jumped from the space station into the capital ship defence scenario.
The battle was already raging. There were 4 human players and it was awesome seeing everyone dogfighting and weaving around the cruiser, blowing away pirate after pirate.

I joined in and while it was unspoken, none of the human players attacked each other and instead we all worked together to fend off the pirates from the damaged capital ship.

I have a feeling this had a lot to do with people trying to build up credits to buy the Cobra :D ...but it still showed to me how cool the wider universe will be.

After we ran out of pirates I jumped into the asteroid/mining scenario and that was quite interesting as well. I got scanned a few times with other players checking for bounty but no one attacked outright....it seems now that there is way more to do than simply attack each other constantly, the styles of play are opening up greatly.

It really is starting to feel like an alive universe. Its starting to feel like Elite.
And it feels exciting. Can't wait to see how adding in trading in alpha 4.0 will mix things up !

Then I jumped back to the space station ....and it was nowhere to be found.
After flying around trying to spot it ....it appeared all around me out of nowhere like I was inside it ....but only a derelict skeleton version of itself ...eerily quiet and uncontactable. It was actually very creepy

Then my game crashed back to Windows :D

Thanks for that! A veritable whirlwind ride of discovery, joy, fear and finally heartbreak. Just imagine what we will discover tomorrow.... <looks away wistfully as if straining to see something that is far away>

+1 rep to OP.

Got to love the enthusiasm.
I just wish I had convinced my wife I needed the Alpha instead of First Beta. :p
