Some BGS questions

In hindsight, I'd temper my commentary above with one caveat.

The factions don't have any concept of "friends" or "enemies" like players do. Elections, however, are the system for peaceful transfer of power... typically....

In that context, an "enemy" doesn't have much meaning in an election... an opponent definitely, but noting hostile rep makes you KOS with a faction, it would be a strange world where the general concept of an election results in the opposition wanting you dead. Sure it happens in the real world, and that's reflected in covert, illegal assassinations and such.

But as a general concept, it's not unheard of for oposing parties to become allies and work together even during an election.

So in that regard, there is some sense to it.

Commentary: while i think ED Best Friends still holds true and rebalancing and introducing content for antagonistic gameplay is important... elections aren't the right vector for it.

It's just a flavoured variant of standard courier missions... what matters is you run missions successfully for the issuing faction.
Yeah, I get that.

I find it best not to look too closely because things don't make sense sometimes.
After reading everything you've said, this is the best answer IMO.

Welcome to Elite: Best Friends. Where you get allied to your enemies even when you work against them. But see the point above; don't look too closely... what matters is you run missions for your faction.
Don't look to closely, got it!

I don't expect the enemy faction to want me dead (except for the fact I have a huge bounty with this faction and am actively at war with it in another system), but the idea that I'm helping it out and making them happy by supporting their opponent makes zero sense to me. That's like saying that if I want tea with AOC, I should stand outside her house waving a Trump 2024 flag.

I mean, I'm running these missions because I must, but the election polls missions feel like a gimmick and not very well thought out. As an immersion-prioritizing game player, this is definitely a "reduction in reputation" for Elite in the list of factions games competing to "control" my free gameplay time, LOL.
