Engineers Some comodities are not sold? What?

So I'm using EDDB and apparently NO stations sell a lot of the commodities needed for the upgrades. I'm also having trouble finding these modified consumer firmware things. I've been looking for hours for them at data points on surface bases.
Anyway the main point is a lot of the engineer sold commodities are not found in any stations, I've been to at least 1 station of every type. Osmium? Found in mining stations? Nope, nothing sells osmium... If this could be fixed that would be nice. And I assume i'll get comments like 'go mine it yourself'. No. If I mine it myself I have to switch out my already modified weapons which I won't be able to buy back after.
.
Thank you.

Osmium has been mining only since it was introduced around 1.3. And it's not likely to change, as it is one of the 3 "rare" materials that generate mining missions. So your only chances are 1) mine it or 2) find a mission that gives osmium as reward. I've seen Samarium and Praesodymium as rewards, there must be missions giving out Osmium. Same with some of the other commodities, like Power Converters.

I hate to disappoint, but 'mining' does indeed mean that you have to mine it yourself. No way to buy Osmium anywhere.

The minerals that you can buy are shown as 'extraction'.

Thank you.

Buy a purpose-built mining ship. In 2.1 you don't have to sell your cargo when you switch between ships. You just need to have enough cargo space on the ship you are switching to.

Switch ship, mine a few tons, switch back. Cargo swaps now provided you have enough space in both ships. Otherwise as above, it's not a bug it is design to make you try different things instead of grinding the same activity forever..

Osmium? You'll probably only need a few tons for the engineer. You have a few choices -

Keep an eye on the mission boards and get it for free
Ask one of the miners or truckers on the forum to drop some for you (perhaps do a trade)
Go to a RES site, get lucky and steal some from a miner
Ask on the forum for a good location and mine it yourself.

Edit - Why do you have to switch out weapons? purchase a ship and configure it for mining, your previous ship will be fine. ED are obviously trying to encourage cmdr's to try other activities and have a more varied experience, at least for a brief period until the cmdr has what they need.

Prior to 2.1 I would Explore & Haul only the most high paying cargo missions. Now I'm doing base attacks, visiting settlements, mining, doing fetch missions, dropping into signal sources, bounty hunting etc
