Some content suggestions

- mining is a bit tedious
to improve, you could provide modules that allow "landing" on an asteroid to directly dig into it then. Obviously with a landing minigame and possibly a minigame for controlling the mining
you could also provide a "grappler" module for easier claiming cargo, nothing fancy like a tractor beam of course, just a reusable clamp and some 200 metres of cable to reel in asteroid chunks or cargo instead of the normal cargo scooping

- more mission types

- choose which star to jump to in multiple star systems (maybe beginning from a certain minimum distance of the stars)
(going 0,22 lightyears like in alpha centauri with supercruise is not fun; also you seem to jump to the star with no or next to no population by default, extremely frustrating)

some ideas:

- mission where you have to repair a satelite installation, making you fly there and dock
- mission where you have to deploy com relays or the like, making you fly to several waypoints and deploy them from cargo
- strike mission where you are given a location to attack, possibly with wingmen and multiple enemies
- mission where you have to deliver fuel or repairs to a stranded ship
- mission where you are the customs inspector, cargo scanning passing ships for contraband and possibly fighting them if they carry stolen or forbidden goods
- longer ranged trade missions (requiring multiple jumps)
- patrol mission with several waypoints; might be enemies at waypoints or neutral ships or nothing

some ideas for more and varied ship equipment

- emp cannons
effective vs shields but no hull damage, less thermal problems than lasers

- drones, short ranged and semi-autonomous

- shielded cargo racks
less capacity, much more pricey, defeat cargo scans for smuggling, maybe with a likelyhood derived from grade of cargo bay versus grade of cargo scanner

- nuclear weapons
somewhat pricey, huge area effect, inflict mainly thermal, maybe some EM-shield damage, far less effective in space, direct hits should be rare but devastating, nice fireworks, frequently forbidden

- sensor upgrade that allows for zoom
- sniper weapons to go with it
