CQC Some CQC Quality of Life Improvements for those waiting in the queue.

Not sure if it is just my bad timing but I find it hard to get a game to match playing from Australia. Tried a few times over last week with no success. While I was waiting in the queue I was thinking how nice it would be if it had:

- Average waiting time per mode.
- Number of active games in progress.
- Maybe some other rolling stats relating to the matches. Kill averages, rank averages, average length, top players etc etc
- Replays of previous matches we could watch while we wait.
- Ability to queue for all mode types at once (first one to fill gets the match), rather than having to choose which one, and select .. and wait and wait.. then swap out.
- The ability to see games/wait times within EDs main game. So I can monitor when number pick up and switch modes.
- I would also like to be able to queue from within the main game so I can play while I wait. (Sure this could offer some challenges to overcome such as how to handle request when you are in combat/space, but imagine no waiting idle!)
- Chat box in lobby

I really enjoy the game play overall, but being in the dark about what is going with the matchmaking etc while waiting just discourages me from queuing up again. I miss the days of server lists you could just choose your match from :). With some improved tools to track things it might encourage more people to queue up?

Thanking you.

Totally agree. If you're in a lobby with 3 people. You have no idea if they are the ONLY three people in the server, in which case why wait longer? The game will never start!
Why does deathmatch have a minimum number of players set to 4. Why couldn't the minimum be 2 players? Then you probably wouldn't be waiting at all, and wouldn't loose those impatient players because there would be likely to be a game in progress all the time!

These problems are all because the devs working on the multiplayer/network backend have no previous experience with designing multiplayer games, on top of that, they're using a radically different approach for the backend instead of utilizing tried and true best practices. This results in the really weird instancing issues and long queue times we have today, and will probably continue to have for a long while.

While I commend their efforts to innovate by trying emerging tech, I don't think they're experienced enough to pull it off, and there's simply way too many moving parts (possible points of failure). I now understand it's not something that will get fixed soon.

I was already bored out of my mind in open, and now I'm getting bored out of my mind waiting in the queue for a CQC match. Once StarWars and Overwatch are available I'll be completely done with ED and CQC. Frontier clearly doesn't have the expertise or the wherewithal to resolve these issues in a timely manner, hell it would require an entire rebuild of the overly complex infrastructure they already built, and we all know that isn't going to happen as they're already heavily infested into it.

As a Systems Engineer my motto has always been: Keep It Simple Stupid

Whew! Here I was worried it was just me lol, waited for about 1 hour trying to get a match in 1 of the 3 modes for CQC on my pc.
Playing ED thru Steam & in Japan...not sure how much of a difference that is but, I ended up downloading & started playing Fallout 4 lol ...oops
Thankfully they have 3 new CGs to participate in now, so back to the CGs
...maybe try CQC later.

Makasuro's post is really sad. Even the veterans are leaving now. Reading Dev posts in the tournament thread it's clear they have no intention of fixing and improving CQC. None of those suggestions will ever be seen.

No doubt been already said but what CQC really needs is 1v1 Death matches.

I had a few 1 v 1 and 3-way death matches in the CQC beta. They were great games with a very different vibe to the 8-way matches. You spent time sneaking around, searching for the other player and trying to ambush them. It was great fun.

Same here in NZ. It's too hard to qualify for the tournament when you can't even get a match.

Trying to get a 65% WR in Solo Deathmatch, but can't even get into a damn game. Gave up on trying to prestige, because people end up leaving the lobby I get into when I go 8-0

I like the idea of the 1vs1 option. Some variation like that would be cool.

This wasn't meant to be a complaint thread on not being able to get a game though (I think that is covered elsewhere), but some of the suggestions above could help eleviate that situation by offering better queue/player retention.

Right now I feel completely un-informed of what is going on in the background. Like most, I will wait a few mins but after that I have to assume that noone is playing or matchmaking is borked!

Your suggestions would all be wonderful, although some are obviously more difficult and complex to implement than others.

Being able to have private 1v1 matches with friends (or any other DM or TDM combination) without having to go through the matchmaking server would also be lovely. If we could do that, we could figure out our *own* matchmaking and bypass the currently-unreliable auto matchmaking altogether. If you're worried about people gaming it, just make those matches not count for rank or stats.

I love CQC but I'm only able to get into a match once every week or so these days.

Lobby chat please! It feels very empty, not being able to compliment (or torment) someone after the last game while you wait for the next.

Also, a way to add friends while in CQC would be nice; it's not so fun exiting out to the main menu, then hoping you remembered their name correctly.

Has anyone had any luck finding a game? Just spent half an hour trying to get into one unsuccessfully. This has been going on for a while now.

I'll be honest .. I have stopped trying to find a CQC game now. I assume either no one is playing or matchmaking is not working, either way sitting around waiting for a game is no fun .. when I could be playing something else.

Exactly my sentiments, while I love CQC it's clear to me that it's just a quickly thrown together game mode that has quickly been forgotten about.

SW: Battlefront comes out tonight so I'm pretty much done with CQC for... a really long time and hopefully FDev gives it the attention it needs. CQC in it's current state is barely even playable during peak times, and FDev somehow thinks the mode is ready for a 100k tourney.

Until then, it's been nice flying with you commanders, I'll return once I'm bored with Star Wars. :) Beats sitting in a queue though!

Maybe in a few more months if the issues are sorted and the population goes up.

Yeah, at least you will get a game quickly with BF! :)

I'll come back and try it every few weeks/every month or so and see if its been fixed or if more people are playing, but my routine of trying for a game each time I start playing ED I am just finding is a waste of time.

Really hope for some improvements (as I suggested in the OP).

Sadly Makasuroa is right. I really like the cqc idea and when finally found a game its real fun. I see its dying as no one is willing to spend their freetime in waiting queues without any information.

I saw in another thread somewhere that Frontier did say matchmaking is occurring during peak times (although not sure when that is), but I do wonder if they have any analytics around the number of players who queue then drop since they can't find a game. For me, I might have dropped 80-90% of the time without finding a game (rough guess). 10-20% I did find one but that was likely padded from the earlier day or two where I got a few matches without waiting.

I think CQC is probably on the back burner a bit at the moment with Horizons so imminent, so will try again once the betas have finished and see if there are any improvements. Seeing other threads saying CQC is dead etc, my feeling is that I may never get far in CQC.

Regardless of matchmaking issues or population issues, I would still like to see some improvements to better inform players in the queues.
