Some Fed Dropship love

I think the Federal Dropship needs a slight buff to its jump range, to bring more into a viable multipurpose role

Lets look at why -

Looking at the faction locked ships, the Imp Courier and Imp Clipper can go up to a 33.68 and 27.52 LY jump range respectively, whereas the Dropship can only achieve 19.66 LY, which i think is a little low, even though it has higher hull mass.

The FAS and FGS are fine with the low jump ranges as they are dedicated combat vessels, but as the Dropship is classed as Heavy Multipurpose, i think a slight buff to its max jump range would really make it a viable choice for a multi-role vessel - it should at least be able to jump farther than the Federal Assault Ship, but at the moment it can't

I've put my tin hat on just in case, but i feel its worth asking

From my point of view the FDS is a combat (at least military) vessel like FGS and FAs.
Its main task is ground work. Going down to the surface drop of or pick up things and get away. That's it.
Im fact a very specialized and a not well supported purpose today.

Maybe it will be the vessel of choice to transport military forces an/or equipment to a pleantary surface one day
but this type of gameplay isn't available today.

For me its currently not worth the effort, nevertheless every ship has its own fans in this game. Myself likes the
clipper very much because of the flight model. On the other hand had the Courier twice and sold it after a short time
because I don't feel the soul of the machine inside.

But to compare with a Courier, Clipper lacks becaus of size and/or purpose.

Fair points, but you hit the nail on the head when you say its not worth the effort

A slight increase to jump range would make it more of a viable choice i think

But it's not a MR ship?

Although we already had the description of it as a troop carrier/land assault ship, it proved its colours by getting military slots, reserved exclusively for naval ships - and to offset the advantages their MR companions get. So this ship got a boost deliberately NOT intended for MR ships.

It is not intended to be convenient to launch around the galaxy. It's intended to kick backside. And for 14 mill credits, it's actually hard to find a ship that kicks backside half as well or has a tiny fraction of its hull survivaility.

For it's price point I'd argue that if you aren't a dedicated small ship pilot in an iCourier, there's very little that can stand up to it. You just need to know how to pilot a ship that doesn't pitch onto your target by yanking the stick back and holding it there.

Give it some time and FA Off love. It's a monster.
