Some feedback from a returning player

My son and I stopped playing a while back. We enjoy advancing by getting new ships. I'd made enough with stacked Robigo runs to have about 600 million maybe? So I was able to try a few ships. The Robigo runs were fun, had to learn to smuggle. Much frustration in the learning process, when you get scanned and see the MISSION FAILED spam - sucks, but exciting, and when you make the deliveires, woohoo!

Stacking pages and pages of them made it so that there's be multiple NPCs waiting in line to interdict you every jump. Pretty exciting stuff. And good risk/reward, you might work all day and make a bunch of cash, or end up with nothing.

All that seems to be gone. In-game denial of service via UAs I guess. Ok so we can't do smuggling anymore. I mean who's going to smuggle a few narcotics for 100K now, what's the point?

We were never into trading. Just boring for us, that's by definition a grind (go here go there back and forth back and forth). Bounty hunting is still more or less the same, but why are the cops in the haz res now? I thought it says that the comm link was down and no system auth response was available? Still very slow progress if you're hoping to buy new ships or upgrade what you have.

We were excited about the idea of engineers, especially when we read about the specials, but then we realized yeah, it's just a bunch of RNG to try to get the results you want, you can't plan for anything. And on top of that it's just an even worse RGN grind to get materials. So there's no goal you can set your sights on and then work to achieve, it's all RNG.

So after a few days of BH and then a failed run to Robigo (no mission board), I guess we'll sign off and come back when multi-crew ships are here. Maybe that will be fun.

I know people will say "oh you just want stuff handed to you". No, I have a finite amount of time to play, and I really like trying different ships and builds, and I don't want to keep eating a 10% penalty on my airframes every time I sell (yes I sell the components first) so I can try different ships. Plus once you build a nice one you want to keep it not keep selling and rebuilding, because you had to fly all over to get all the modules you wanted.

Also not being able to make credits at a reasonable rate makes us risk-averse, so we don't try things we'd otherwise try. Why fly the anaconda with an 18 million rebuy cost when I can fly the FDL with much lower rebuy. Sometimes I'd like to fly the big guy. Used to be able to make the rebuy in a few hours with Robigo in an Asp so no big deal. Not anymore.

Anyway, just some feedback in case the devs read the forums.

Oh and the dailies (merit decay) makes PP not worth it as well. Pretty sad being at rank 4 or so before and coming back to rank 1. Basically it seems like this game just wants you to stay in the same spot or regress. It's ok to let people progress. People like to play alts (different ships in this game). It's a valid thing.

The new AI is not bad, bounty hunting can be more fun now, it was a bit boring before, but then when you get the freak ships that just regen shields every pass, that's just odd, don't like to have to run from a fight, but it doesn't happen that often.

Fly safe commanders. I always hope the best for FD, this game was fun to play for a while, and it's just gorgeous graphically. We need more space sims so I hope they continue to do well.
