Some life added to the game. Bulk transports

So I have a feeling this is what Jacques station was prototyping, but here we go.

I'd like to see the inclusion of large, capital class freighters, that jump from system to system every week or so, along well known routes.
These ships could have their routes and current locations listed via galaxy map.
They could allow landing in much the same way as outposts offer, and could occasionally park a few tens of kilometers from major stations, allowing small cargo shuttles to ferry goods between the two.
There could be a few types, using modular assets to customise deck configuration, but all using a common skeleton (or a different skeleton for each major power)
Possible variations could be based on the different economies they service, such as Extraction, Refining, Industrial, Tourism, High Tech, etc.
There could even be an Alliance Q-Ship Variation seen in combat zones.
If passing through Anarchy space, or a system at war, a CZ might form around the ship itself, as it could be a strategic asset.

It could also be possible to find some of these ships derelect, smashed wide open, accessible only by smaller ships to get into, containing small amounts of valuable cargo deep within. Of course, these would be a hotspot of pirate activity.

What do the folks here want to see to bring that sense of life to inhabited space?

Edit: If the whereabouts of these freighters is shown on gal-map, FD could also show known locations of Capital military ships of your faction, if you have the rank to see them, or the last known locations of opposing faction ships.
Also, I'd like to see other classes of capital ship for each faction, and for them to maneuver a bit if/when they fight.

I do remember seeing the long range cruisers in FE2 which were a nice thing to see here and there.

I'd like to see some form of high-end trader vessel, something that could take up to a couple thousand tonnes, but has a prohibitively limited range, meaning you are limited to ranges of up to 5ly, arbitrarily plucking figures.

This topic appears once a month, been like that since late Beta/gamma. No idea why the devs won't make this a thing, it really gave the X series some life.

Even on the most basic level we should have bulk freighters for seeking goods/weapons/medicine.

Yup, this would be great! Freighters could provide much needed context for combat zones, and provide escort, protect or rescue missions. As well as pirate, hunt and destroy missions :)

In addition to freighters, bringing CQC assets to the main game would also go a long way to bring more variety and life to inhabited space, like have space elevators for high tech, high population planets. Also solar forges that FD already had concept art for, and asteroid stations of course..

Ah yes, I fondly remember the old Lynx Bulk Carriers from Frontier! Heck, maybe you can be given missions to escort them to a particular station *if* that system has recently been in a state of civil war or excessive lawlessness!

Great idea, by the way!

This is a cool idea, and would really shake up play for commercial-type players like myself.

Now it is quite an interesting idea.

Could be interesting with super massive station/city? also? sized freighters?, that would travel through space, maybe they would be too big to use FSD? but instead would travel with a significantly slower version? as OP said, they have a route, maybe they would even be able to be targetable between stars? they would be massive enough for smaller FSD's to lock on to and travel to?
