Some noob questions for ya

So because we all have ants in our proverbial pants and we love talking about ED so much, I have some genuine noob questions that maybe the community would like to answer.

P. S. I know I can find these answers on YouTube or the forums or whatever. I'm only asking here to further the discussion of the game. Spare us all any snarky responses. Thanks :)

1) I know you can explore planets in the rover, but is there any actual walking around anywhere, or are you always in a vehicle?

2) Will jumping/warping from system to system be a hassle like on that No Man's Sky game? Meaning, is there a warp "fuel" that you run out of and constsntly have to grind for more and manually refuel and all that crap? Or are you free to just fly to your heart's content?

3) Will there be any way to opt out of battling on multiplayer? Or is everyone just open game? I know you can bounty people, but I'm just worried it'll turn in to some GTA online nonsense where the second you warp somewhere there's a bunch of way more powerful players just waiting to kill you. Over and over. That would get annoying.

4) How big can your clan/squad/battalion/whatever be? And does the squad system have a way to organize the members? Like, can you assign ranks, promote/demote, and assign certain powers/permissions based on rank?

5) I've seen YouTube videos that suggest this, but can you have multi-crew ships with real people? Like someone is the pilot, someone is the gunner, etc?

6) What happens when you get killed in multiplayer? I know you just respawn, but where do you respawn and what do you lose for dying? I'm sure there's some type of penalty, but if you have a bunch of precious cargo how much of that can you lose to pirates?

Well. That's about all I got right now. Thanks for any answers. Feel free to throw in anymore useful information.

No, always in the ship or rover.. maybe one day it will change (I would hope so, but we shall see)

2) Will jumping/warping from system to system be a hassle like on that No Man's Sky game? Meaning, is there a warp "fuel" that you run out of and constsntly have to grind for more and manually refuel and all that crap? Or are you free to just fly to your heart's content?

there is fuel, you can either refuel in stations or use a fuel scoop to get it from usable suns

nope, if they interdict you and pull you from FSD you have to either fight back or run! unless you play in solo mode. But you have the entire galaxy to explore millions and millions of stars so I would not worry too much about it!

4) How big can your clan/squad/battalion/whatever be? And does the squad system have a way to organize the members? Like, can you assign ranks, promote/demote, and assign certain powers/permissions based on rank?

No idea, you can do a squad of 4 I think is the max number?

yes, if your ship supports it you can make a multicrew to do things like bounties/mining etc

as far as I know you goto a starter system (or it could be the last system you were in??) as for your stuff.. it gone, least it was for me on the PC one

1: Always in an SRV for now, walking will come in a future expansion
2: Hassle? man if you consider flying around space a hassle, this ain't the game for you lol. but really, yes you need fuel but you either buy it or buy a fuel scoop and get free fuel from the sun
3: there always is solo mode, where you play the same game but meet no players.
4: uhmm.. are we talking about the same game here? o_O
5: yes you can multicrew with others
6: good question, I have no idea but I would assume you simply go back to your ship

1) Nope. Check for "space legs". Annouced for sometime in the future, but not right now.

2) Don't know about NMS, but jumping costs fuel - as does cruising around or simply sitting in place. However, you can cheaply refuel at (almost!) any station, or you can equip a fuel scoop and refuel directly from KGB FOAM stars. If you run out of fuel despite this, log out, then call the Fuel Rats.

3) You can go solo or in private group. If you're in open, you're in open. But outside hotspots, it's rare to find anothe CMDR. The Galaxy is BIG.

4) Nothing of that in game. You can hook up temporarily in wings of up to 4 (IIRC) players. A lot of people use Inara for managing groups and Discord for communications.

5) that's what multi-crew is there for, yes.

6) you respawn at the last station you docked. If you have the money for the rebuy (a.k.a. insurance, 5% of your ships value), you can buy back your last ship. If not, you'll get the starter Sidey. You'll lose all bounty vouchers, combat bonds, cargo and exploration data. So, Never fly without rebuy!

P.S.:
..assuming the Rats will establish a franchise on the PS4...

1. We are always in a vehicle, for now. Walking around is something that is rumored to be added in the future.

2. You have a fuel tank. You can buy larger fuel tanks that allow you to make more and further jumps. Yes, you can run out of fuel. You can refuel in a station or buy a fuel-scoop and refuel from stars. Buying a fuel-scoop is a must.

3. You can try running from enemies. Other than that, if someone is attacking you, you either fight back or run. If you don't want to deal with other humans attacking you, play in solo mode. But honestly, in all my time in the XB1 version, I was never just randomly attacked by other humans.

4. I think 4 people in a wing is max. I don't think there is clan support in the game, like most MMO's. I could be wrong.

5. Yes, the lastest update allows multi-crew. One person pilots, another in a gunner seat, another can take out a small fighter.

6. If you get killed, multiplayer or solo play, you lose everything. You lose your cargo, any bounties you haven't yet turned in, any exploration data you had. Poof. All gone. You then have to re-buy your ship. That is why people always say "don't fly what you can't rebuy." The game will tell you how much it costs to rebuy your ship and all it's components if you blow up. Always have at least that amount of credits.

1) No on foot at all yet, you are always in a ship or vehicle.

2) It does require fuel but it's available to buy at all stations/outposts/bases and is cheap, you can also fit a fuel scoop to your ship and refuel from class KGBFOAM stars, it's nothing like the grind involved in NMS :)

3) Yes, you can play in Solo or private group modes and you can switch modes whenever you want with no penalty. While it can be dangerous the game is large enough that you will not be affected so much generally, but be aware that popular location like the starter system, community goal system and so on will tend to attract people looking to kill other players.

4) There are no tools for this whatsoever in game, the only aspect that exists is wing mechanics for which you can have four players.

5) Yes indeedy, helm(ship owner only), gunner and fighter pilot roles are available.

6) You are given the option to respawn at the last location you were docked at and given the option to pay a 10% cost to replace your destroyed ship and modules, you can also choose to respawn back at the starter system with a free sidewinder, any cargo carried is lost.

Sucks about the crew/clan thing. I don't know why I thought it had it. I remember videos saying something like "team up with others", but I guess teaming up and being in a clan together are 2 separate things.

Seems like a missed opportunity IMO. Customizable squads with squad roles and what not would be killer for forming a pirate unit or whatever.

If you are worried about gankers, be wary of flying to Community Goals in Open, thats usually where you find them. Although tbh any potential gank squads will be preoccupied with getting their desired gank-ships bought, outfitted and engineered so it shouldnt be too much of a worry for now...
