Ships Some questions about Engineering.....

So, I'm in the process of engineering the various bits of my various ships. I'm starting with my Adder (yes, I know it's small and weak and yadda yadda.... I love it).
So, I've souped up the Frame Shift Drive for range (I use the ship for exploration, believe it or not).
I'm about to do the shields... but I'm uncertain what would be the best way to go with it. Right now she has normal shields. Would I be better off getting biweave shields and engineering those? What kind of engineering is better?

I'm kind of uncertain what to do with it, it seems they've changed how engineering is done since I last did any.

For exploration, I would chose 1A or 2D enhanced low power stripped down shields if any, depending on what slots you need for other things. Personally, I wouldn't waste materials on engineering an Adder unless you have a specific niche use for it. Money is so easy to get that you could have a DBX after an hour's work, which would be a much better explporation ship.

Ya, I know the Adder might not seem worth it, but I want to engineer all my ships (I have a few), and even the Adder deserves it.

I've been tinkering on Coriolis (I didn't realize you could do the engineering there to see the effects), and that is a huge help, thanks!

Engineered Adder is a fun ship to fly!
Only thing is, I keep getting interdicted by pirates I have NO chance of fighting against. Chieftains, Kraits, Anacondas.
Last night I was interdicted by (what I thought was) an Eagle. Oh good, says I, something I can actually defend myself against. Nope, it wasn't AN Eagle, it was a squadron of them. About a dozen, I believe.

Dirty Drive engines got me out of range fast enough that I was able to escape, at least.

This is a pretty fun Adder https://s.orbis.zone/e-ld
Boost speed 745 m/s, non-boost 513
Jump distance 48,6 LY
Engineered mines to disrupt engines and to destroy shield generator
Heatsink and chaff
Hull 600 + resistances
One extra internal to use to whatever

Well. More or less finished upgrading my Adder. Started work on the next ship in the lineup, my Keelback. Ran out of some of the materials, looked to see how I'm supposed to get them.
Holy old crap, they sure need me to go jumping through hoops for these things. Some of these items I've acquired something like 2 or 3 of them in several YEARS of play... and I'm supposed to collect something like 2 dozen of them?
Oh look, says I... there are traders that will provide materials and encoded stuff. What's this? I need to give them as many as a THOUSAND samples in exchange for ONE that I need? I can't just pay them cash?

Well. Looks like engineering my ships is a bust. No chance of doing that in any kind of reasonable timeframe that will allow me to do the stuff I actually enjoy, like mining, trading and exploring.

Oh well. Got all excited there for a while.

Great choice in the Keelback!

As for Engineering it's not as bad as it first seems. Do a bit of research and you find places like some crashed anaconda's, CMDR Jamesons Cobra II, Dav's Hope and some surface plant POI (they may not be in odyssey) where you can grab a boat load of gear with a little bit of farming. Which can be used to trade for what you need.

I pretty much just grab everything I can during my general gameplay but If I go on an engineering blitz, so to speak, I go to those places and and farm up and trade for what I need. Also think about the 3rd party App called EDEngineer, it's great for planning out builds and if you already have the materials or can trade for them...

So basically, at first it's a bit of work but once you get used to it it simply becomes part of your gametime plans :)

I did warn you to conserve your materials. Anyway, the game is all about collecting them so that you can upgrade your ships. There are some really good Youtube videos on how to get the materials quickly and efficiently. It's probably not as bad as you think. Some of the methods can be fun, others are a little tedious. The alternative is just to collect them as you go through the game and upgrade when you have enough.

Your Adder is a good ship to use for davs Hope, the various crashed ships trip out to the crystal things and doing base scans. You can get materials and money at the same time by doing bounty farming at a resource extraction site or laser mining for platinum.

Ya, kind of hard to conserve materials you don't have. I was out in the deep black for about 3 years, so I have very few materials and such, as they are obtained by searching crashes, and scanning wakes and so on... none of which is found 1000LY outside the bubble.

It's not a big deal, really... I just thought it would be a fun thing to do, engineering my various ships. I'm quite content just going along in stock ships.

To be honest, the way to engineer ships is to farm up tier 5 materials and downconvert them into what you actually need.

Crystal Shards for raws, high population Imperial systems for manufactured, Jameson Crash Site for data.
